Got a shock when I first passed a camera today, after updating to v7.210 all my warning sounds had reset to "Bell 1".

Annoying but not unusual, so I just started putting them back to normal and find that, for some reason, it seems that "Polite 1, 2 and 3" sounds have been changed in this version.
Guess which ones I use? Evil or Very Mad

On my new unit, just by telling the unit which sounds you want it to use, it will reset them back to the "bell" sound everytime you connect it to tt home! happens to me everytime! not happy :S

This is something i picked up on, on the day i bought my TT720 back in early august.

Very annoying and still it appears there is no fix for it.

I have likewise posted it here hoping someone else may have found a fix but not yet :o(

Let me know when a fix has been done!

Thanks

But I did NOT have this (until today), and I suspect I still might not have them resetting every time. Just going to check.

Just in case anyone else thinks of trying it, the old and new data.chk files are NOT compatible - it got very upset when I tried putting the old one on - kept saying it was copying the address book from my mobile phone and then rebooting. I don't even HAVE a mobile with Bluetooth!

Is there an easier way of setting the alert sound? Setting my preferred sound (and distance) on each PocketGPS camera takes well over an hour!

Fix for what?
Getting the old sounds back?
Stopping it losing the settings every so often?
or it taking epoch over an hour? Laughing

I sense little sympathy!

I also noticed, for some bizarre reason I have started getting a weird 'police' siren sound every now and then. It's as if I'm near a POI, but nothing's showing up on screen. And yup - my damned PocketGPS camera warnings are now going "donggg" instead of the Star Trekky red alert sound I was using ...

So that's ANOTHER hour ......

No, I sympathise... but look on the bright side - the more you have to do it, the quicker you'll get! Wink

One thing that might help:
The settings you make are stored in a file called "MapSettings.dat" in the map folder. (EDIT- the file is "MapSettings.cfg" not "dat")
When you've got it how you like it, connect up to the PC and make a backup copy of just that file (why not make another FULL backup while you're at it too?).
Put the file somewhere safe, and then if it gets messed up, you can just copy it straight back again.

Do be aware that other things like your favourites and recent destinations are also saved in that file, so if you restore an old version you will lose any recent changes.

EDIT: Ohh, and that police siren? It could well be an OVERSPEED warning. Check what is ticked in Change preferences / Safety preferences.

Thank for the tip!

I don't think the warning was overspeed. It was happening on the M1 on Monday - and for 30 miles I got nowhere near 40mph!!

And anyway - I never speed! Razz

Andy

"MapSettings.dat" not found on my 720, but "MapSettings.cfg" is.

I assume from advice given elsewhere , "MapSettings.cfg" is correct file for 720

Yes, you are quite right, both Oldboy and me got it wrong on the same day! I wonder who started it, or have we got some scary morphic resonance? Shocked

Sidhe, you are not meant to edit it directly, just save it when you haveset the machine up the way you want it.

Cheers
