Has anybody experience of calibrating Swiss topo scanned maps for
ozi explorer? I have in the past calibrated ordnance survey maps using (Ord Srvy Grt Britn) as the datum and BNG as the projection with very accurate results.
So for a proposed walking trip in the Italian Alps I thought, simple, buy and scan some Swiss topo maps (really good detail for off roading) and calibrate them!
I now find this not so simple. I used the datum CH-1903 and (SUI) Swiss Grid as the projection and entered the grid details. Does not work - gives a calibration error message.
Has anybody sucessfully calibrated these maps and if so what settings are required?

Any guidance would be really helpful.

ALAN (lost somewhere in Italy...)

Never tried Swiss maps but the outline you give should be correct. The process is the same for all maps - you've got the tricky part correct (datum and projection) assuming this is what it says on the maps Wink

I've never seen any calibration error message even when making some silly mistakes (two points set correctly for West and the third set East, even though it was directly below one of the correct points).

At what point in the process does it give you the error?

I guess it could be one of these 'false' errors you sometimes get with s/w. Can you write to the device you are using to create the .MAP files (i.e. is it protected or full?)
