Assuming the Nuvi works like a TomTom, there is nothing in the POI file that DOES anything with the speed. All it is, is a point in space, it doesn't know or care about the speed or anything else.

The only thing that happens is that the NAME of the POI category causes an icon of the same name to be shown on screen. In the case of the camera files, that icon happens to show numbers that relate to the speed. So if you have a POI category full of 60MPH cameras and a "60" icon to match, it will show up as you pass one. If you had a category full of 60kMPH cameras and a copy of the same icon with the right name, when you pass one of those while abroad the 60 icon will also show.
So it all works without changing anything.

Not my best explanation ever, but I hope it makes sense!

It doesn't. The Garmin files DO contain speed data, hence each entry is something like GATSO:12345@50 - the @50 is the trigger speed for the POI.

You need to load the UK set of files with POILoader set to mph and then the KPH files with POILoader set to kph. Hence the instructions on the page provided.
