|
|
I've downloaded some POIs and have transferred the BMP and Ov2 files to the map section of Navigator 5 on my PDA but when i try to navigate to the POI it doesn't show.
I set some up before, ages ago, and they still work but i've noticed that with the ones that work there seems to be another file with the same name and when i go to the properties of that file it says the type is 'setup information'.
Do i need to get that file for the other POIs too and if so how do i do it?
Hope that makes sense! |

This may seem obvious but have you enabled the POI you're trying to navigate to?
If it doesn't appear in the list you may have exceeded the maximum allowed

Have a look at your map folder using Windows Explorer and count up how many ov2 files there are, these are the custom POI files you have installed, the maximum you can install is 39 if you have gone over the limit you will need to work out which POI files you really need.
You certainly do not require the setup file only the bmp file (which is the icon) and the ov2 file which contains the actual locations - Mike |

Thanks for the help. Looks like i was trying to have too many!
If i have combine the sub-categories into one file does that mean i can have 39 of them ie if put all the supermarkets into one category instead of having them individually will i then be able to do the same with fuel? |

You have the right idea when using the combine sub cats this will reduce the individual Custom POI count but you will still have the the locations for all the various categories within each file.
Fuel is a good one, I don't bother where I get fuel from, I just need to know where there is a pump, ATM (cash machines) is another, who bothers which bank your money comes from, you just need cash, the same for food to a lessor extent, although I am particular when it comes to food shopping - Mike |

Thank you.
Just one more question, is it safe for me to delete the default POIs that were already on TomTom as they're out of date now anyway. If so how do i do it?
Promise i won't ask any more questions after this (at least for a while ) |

The built in POI files are contained within the file named POI.dat within the map folder, these POI files do not count towards the limit so you may as well leave them alone, taking this file appart and adding to it is not really viable or worth the effort, deleting it serves little purpose either to be honest - Mike |
