Has anyone compared the CoPilot 4.5 to the latest TomTom Navigator? I currently have a CoPilot but just wanted to explore my options. |

Yes, we have compared it. Please be more specific in your question. What areas are you focussing on? _________________ Lutz

Just looking for opinions on how the TomTom is compared to the CoPilot. Since I already have the CoPilot, is there anything I'm missing out on with the TomTom? I know they use different map databases (NavTech vs. ALK). Pros and cons of each?
Sorry if missed another post or article on the subject, but if there is one, could someone direct me to it? |

Personally speaking, TT has a nicer and more intuitive UI, clearer map display, better speech albeit not TTS and full support for custom POI's.
CP has the live features and Navtech map data. I have used CP extensively but still prefer TT as I cannot be without the custom POI support and ease of use. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I thought it was TT that used Navtech maps and CP has it's own database.
I looked at some screenshots of the TT and it didn't look like it had clear, written out directions like the CP. Since I have a convertible, I can barely hear any speech anyways. However, the TT maps do look a lot better, but does it help that much? |

TomTom use Teletype Map Data, CoPilot uses Navtech. Nobody uses their own.
TomTom has a 'No Map' screen option to hide the map and display directions only but I find a map is a much better way of describing the next junction and the exit you need than a page of text.
Of course in the end it is down to personal preference but if I were to say that out of the four PocketGPS editors, three prefer TomTom and that is having tried all manner of solutions _________________ Darren Griffin |

Ok, just wanted to clear up some confusion. I should've mentioned it earlier but thing may be different for me because I'm in the US. I found out that the CoPilot does in fact use it's own database for the US and Navtech for the UK and Europe. I've read that the TomTom may not be as accurate as the CoPilot with US maps. |

Well our US Editor Lutz may be able to comment on that, he uses TomTom. _________________ Darren Griffin |
