Help with garmin and VISTA

Hi everybody
I have a problem with the garmin nuvii I have 250T nothing wrong with it but when connecting up to the computer to load POI or whatever by USB it loads finds garmin then stops---Please insert the disc that came with you product ---Garmin dont do a disc they say its built in Phoning Garmin the coulnt understand neither could HP the computer its new running VISTA the usb in garmin site do not work with Vista 32 bit only 64 bit ??
Anyway conecting up the computer shut down with error while loading usb drivers
Why cant garmin cater for VISTA I have a old Destinator it loads loverly as old as it is !
Can anyone suggest somthing Garmin dont want to know and I dont want to wreck my new computer
