I thought that Navman had shelved this device, in the UK at least.

The DVD doesn't allow you to do view what whilst driving? Do you mean you can't see the maps on the screen?

for legal reasons i guess, but can this be bypassed as i dont see the point of just sitting in your car stationery to watch a dvd. This is for my passengers to enjoy and seems useless.

You cannot disable DVD lock by fiddling with connections -- unit monitors several of them. To allow you to watch DVDs it will check that antenna IS connected (so disconnecting it doesn't help), that speed reading is zero and that handbrake is engaged (so you can't watch DVD while driving through tunnels either Smile).

If you're really keen, you could try looking for hidden menus, maybe you'll find something useful. Someone discovered one for iCN320 and apparently there is a lot of stuff in there although he didn't specify what. See, here (last two messages):

It is possible to get round this without cutting any wires or unplugging anything.

If you want to know anymore, please message me.

I don't watch the screen when I'm driving.......it is for my kids to watch. It is no different to having the radio on or listening to the cd.

Its not rocket science to re-wire a handbrake switch, earth out the Speedo signal and kill the GPS reception with a tin hat, BUT you will be breaking the law if you do this, quite simply the only moving screen display device permitted within a drivers field of vision is a navigation aid type display - movies are certainly outside this scope, when the Police spot your car with such a system installed you will be prosecuted. Claiming that you weren’t watching it is not an excuse that would be acceptable.

If you want a system for the kids to watch get the devices that fit to the rear of the headrest, there are some fairly cheap offers on these if you shop around, typically under £200 for two screens and the player. The big plus point it the kids then have to wear earphones so you don't have to listen to the rubbish they are watching - Mike

Yeh - right !!!

Do you really expect me to believe that someone who beileves that watching a video is no different to listening to a CD while driving won't occationally sneak a peak at the screen. Thats why the law prohibits the screen being in view of the driver, not many of us (myslef included) have enough disipline not to do it.

I'm not going to get into an arguement about it, but trust me, I have no desire to even have a sneaky view at Barbie dvd's.
