Recently installed TTHome and updated my TT300, all well and fine.
Added pocketgps camera files into the GBmap folder, they worked fine too. But now TTHome freezes up when I connect unit, "searching for installed items". Both the 300 and Home stop working and I have to reset the 300 because it wont turn off or respond.
SO! I connect to my laptop without TTHome in order to read the card. I can see all the files and folders ok. Performed error checks ( I have XP) and virus check on the card, all ok. Tried to delete the camera files (thought they might be the cause) but unit freezes as soon as I select a file. I have to reset 300 to exit. The computer isnt happy either!

Result is I cant connect, I cant restore, and I cant move files. I'm stuck!
Have emailed tomtom, no sensible response.

The unit works fine when not connected, so its not useless, would 'reset factory settings' help?

my 300 wouldn't connect talk to my pc,it did do before but for some reason it wouldn't,i tried everything i got really peed off,so i sent tomtom a email, but me being impatient i thought the only other thing i can do is a format of my pc

i know its was a silly thing at the time and i really didn't want to go through the long process of saving all my important stuff

but it was worth it when i hooked up my 300 it worked fine

the next day i got a email from tomtom they had sent me a program to use

what did they say to you

This sort of thing can occur if you don't disconnect properly.

When using only Windows Explorer, you should right click the drive and select "Eject".

In TT Home, either click on the Device button, bottom left, or on newer versions of TT Home (which you may or may not have) Menu Item "Device" includes Disconnect.

In your case right now, I'd try reboot PC and Reset (Long push - 20, 30 secs) GO300, then try connecting again.

Thanks for input. Whilst I was originally updating from TTHome I got a error message 'handling exception...' and I did disconnect by unplugging. So that caused the problem, how do I fix it? I have reset (long press) many times, and rebooted pc, run regclean.exe from tomtom.
It seems to me to be a format problem within the 300 (thats why neither computer can talk to it).
I have a restore file, but obviously can't get it into the 300, catch 22.

Start Home and restore new blank card via a card reader?
Start Home and restore new blank card via a neighbour's GO300/500?
I would suggest copy your backup to a new card using Windows Explorer, but it sounds a bit like your backup is by Home rather than Explorer.
If you can connect via your laptop, could you copy your backup to laptop and restore to a new card from there? Oops, just noticed you say you now cannot connect to either computer.
I hope you haven't been tempted to format the card - it's probably the only place you've got your map.
There's a free download program called (I think) recuva, which might let you regain the map folder from the card and into your PC.

I'm lost after that. Contact good old Tom Tom support. Wink

Strange, isn't it? I downloaded it myself two hours ago after discovering I'd accidentally deleted Vera's camera card photos WITHOUT copying them to the PC - First time I've ever done such a stupid trick. I recovered 59, but sadly, the majority of them were the next batch which had overwritten the numbers from the previous set. Currently sitting on the naughty step - they were the only photos of her grandson's 18th party (everybody else had forgotten to charge their batteries - I had smirked).
