Even better way to search for Postcodes on TomTom. Ditch the POI search and check this out.
Hi,
Just thought I should make you all aware of this superb Postcode application.
It's a fully functional database search that interacts with TomTom 2. To either show on the TomTom map or Navigate to.
Much easier to use and less fiddly than using POI's
Check out the link below

Ditch the POI postcode search and use this.
I hope you find this as easy to use as i do. _________________ Richard

I think you'll find you're the last one to find out! It's been talked about for several weeks and we did post a news article on Feb 29th! |

Reply to further up the thread....
Liked Dave's idea of keeping the files out of tt2 until needed, have created folders:- abc, def, ghi etc and put the files in their respective folder using the file postcode mnemonic – that way I can quickly find the right file, to load.
Have modified the file names CodeSearch_NW_London for example, as I could not properly identify the file when viewed on my 2210 – shortened the name to CodeSrch_NW.
Two files are provided, the data file and an accompanying bitmap file of the same name. Deleted ALL but 3 of the bitmap files and now just rename the ones left permanently in tt2 to that of data file(s) I want to load, this has save Kb's of space and made the data files easier to locate in the abc, def… folder(s). The abbreviated bitmap file name means it's easy to amend the last one or two characters.
Assuming your storing the postcode files on your pda of course!
Hope this makes sense. :D |

Silly question (for you I guess) coming up: when would I be best using the code search method as opposed to uisng Niels' UK postcode finder? I have tried using Niels' programme when I know a specific postcode and it worked a treat until my Pocket PC crashed overnight but in what scenario would the code search method be used/more useful? |

Yeah, that's what I figured - guess I'll stick to what I do currently - make Favourites for regularly visited clients and pois for the occasional ones (I only really wanted the post codes for the occasions when I get 'phone calls on the road asking me to visit a client which I hadn't planned to call on).
If I got my act together I'd enter all my cleints into Autoroute have it plot them out for me and then export the custom pois from there - but I can't be bothered doing it again (i have a large database of small boat manufacturers and repair outlets which I did this for last year) this sort ofthing is what pc /pda's were made for just have to get the energy up for the marathon typing sessions to make the database )

Hi I'm new here and have just been randomly browsing threads when I came across yours. I was just wondering if the http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/gpsassist.php would be of any use in solving your problem.
I only discovered the Postcodes a couple of weeks ago and have already found it really useful in my job (I deliver hire cars). So much quicker than entering a whole address. |
