Hello,

I purchased a Garmin Nuvi 360T with GTM 12 Traffic Receiver just over a week ago. In that time I haven't had any traffic information. I have made a couple of trips up and down the M6 and M55 to test the system.

I am aware through this forum of the problems being experienced by some people. I have the version 4.10 software and have tried the unit on USB power, cigareete lighter power and maind adaptor power in a number of locations (house, car etc).

I contacted Garmin and they sent me a 'suppressor kit' which has not made any difference at all.

I have just contacted Garmin again and a young lady has told me that it can take a week or so for the traffic facility to be 'activated'. To achieve this, I need to leave the unit switched on with the receiver connected for as long as possible. I was also advised that the M6 is very poor for traffic information availability!!

Sounds like I am having my leg pulled!

Any comments?

Dave

First of all, what's the serial number on the car charging cable - if it ends in 6017, you need to persuade Garmin to send you the cable that ends in 6025.

However, M6 / M55 sounds potentially like it's an area covered by the Winter Hill transmitter - is your local commercial radio station Century FM? If so, it stopped broadcasting TMC data for Trafficmaster back in December 2006, and will, in the future, be used by Trafficmaster's rival, iTIS Holdings, leaving Trafficmaster with a large blackhole of not TMC signal in the North West, and, from what I understand, no other stations to use...

Unfortunately, you'll have to travel a lot further afield before you will receive a signal.

M55/ M6 is, or rather was served by the Winter Hill transmitter - Reception around the North West (Fylde in particular) is nigh on impossible to get working with the Garmin receiver, unless Traffic Master can get another local radio station to transmit the data it won't work around here.
I have had reception when on the M60, but that’s quite a distance away from where I live, and to get to a reception area means driving through some very congested motorway networks.

The only device I have tried that actually works (without modification) in and around the Fylde is the Navman system, if RDS-TMC is vital to you I would return the device as "not fit for purpose" and re-consider some of the other manufacturers - Mike
