I'm a new user of PMN. Is there an easy way to build a route from your current location (or Home) without having the GPS on? I'd like it to route to, say, an Outlook Contact address (which I know it can do) from a manual entry or remembered location, then be able to save or "Go" that route. The regular "create route" interface is kinda awkward in comparison. |

OK, I just checked, and discovered about a dozen different ways to accomplish what you seek. So as to keep my efforts to a bare minimum, which method are you using now? |

I've been trying to use the "Destination" icon, then choosing "Contacts". But it seems without the GPS connected it always tries to use the last known location as the Origin current location.
I'm just looking for the best shortcut method to get the Origin and Destination into a route I can save or "Go", using pre-defined addresses (like in Contacts). |

If I'm understanding your problem then I suggest you do the following:
Go into Map mode. scroll the map until you find the place you want to be the origin (or use FIND - Address, FIND - CONTACT, etc.) or just find the location you are currently at and click and hold that point on the screen to select it. Once you have a location selected, click the mailbox icon and choose "set as origin". Then do the same, finding your destination location and choosing "set as destination".
Then it's simply a matter of choose ROUTE - CREATE from the menus at the bottom of the screen. You can then save the route if you'd like. Make sure, of course, that you have the local maps for both your origin and destination locaded as well as all the major road maps (the highway grid maps) needed to connect the two points or this won't work.

Thanks..that helps some. But I somehow have a point in there (a pinned star) that I just can't get rid of that keeps wanting to be the Origin...where the $#@! is the "Delete"? I've tried "Clear" under Route but it doesn't go away. If I hold the "+" by the address for that entry all I get are things like "Set as Destination, Set as Origin", etc...I just want it to go AWAY! |

I have that too - the star with the pushpin in it, but it doesn't stop me from selecting other road segments (they will go pink/lavender when you select them) and then clicking on the mailbox icon and choosing "Set origin...". Is your setup not responding this way? As a dumb question, are you running version 3.12 or an earlier version? I know you said you are a new user, but that doesn't necessarily mean you are running the current version.

Yes...3.12. Somehow I got it to work. Main difficulty is that the "Current Route Point" dropdown is VERY finicky...have to select the down arrow a few times before I get a list to choose from. I was then able to set my O: and D: properly...thanks. |
