Hello folks,

I am looking at a used Navman 510. The guy wanted $175 and was willing to take $130.

I started to ask about all of the accesories and software. He claims the original software was "stolen" from his parents house. I am beginning to assume the whole unit is stolen.

I have searched here and elsewhere with my friends from google. It appears that even though the memory card is loaded with 48 states, I really need a valid registration number for both the desktop SW and maps.

I assume I can buy new desktop/maps from Navman is that price combined with the $130 still a good deal? Or do I let this one go?

Given you suspect it is stolen, theres a moral issue to deal with first.
However, 130 + a map upgrade for the iCN510 is more than a new F series unit will cost.

However the good news is that if the 510 has been registered, that Navman keeps a record of this and it would be a simple matter to istall the software again. It would have to be exactly the same version of software that it is registed for, and you would need to get hold of the CD's

Personally I would flag it, too much risk, not enough reward to make it worth while. A reasonable price for a "not going iCN510" is probably $30

You used to be able to download desktop software from Navman's site. So, if you install dekstop software, connect the unit and retrieve registration information from the server, you should be able to see the details of the person who registered it. If it matches the details of the seller than unit is probably not "hot" as thief probably wouldn't be that stupid to register the stolen unit in his name.
