about to get a tomtom 910. Worried at news it might be discontinued.

Is there any better satnav with live traffic updates available?

Thanks

viamichelin 980 or the nuvi 660 or garmin 550

the 910 doesn't have proper inbuilt traffic
tom tom hardware is pretty flakey as well
just ask your nearest dealer about teh amount of tom tom warranty claims and returned boxes compared with sauy garmin

If Traffic information is a priority I would use the TomTom system but use the subscription system which provides data over your mobile phone's GPRS connection.
The reasoning behind this is quite simple in general the radio signals used to transmit RDS-TMC simply don't work in huge areas of this country (UK) This affects far more than just TomTom, although their RDS-TMC is particulally poor.
Any Nav unit using RDS-TMC will work in certain parts of the country, but a mobile phone will use GPRS and has a coverage in excess of 95% of the country - Mike

If the 910 uses a hard disc, don't go near it. My GO700 has been back to the makers three times in a year after complete failures and bodged repairs. Each failure and factory visit lost many irreplaceable waypoints across all of Europe. No apologies or sympathy - in fact, I suspect 90% of their "replies" are automatically generated, as they never answer the question you ask. A real nightmare to deal with. I hear that the solid state Tomtoms are OK, but I can't recommend the company.

I am told I am now due a replacement, but I have cut and run and bought a Garmin 550. The Tomtom will go straight to eBay. I can't tell you how frustrating TT's customer service is. The 550 has free traffic info too.
