I've complained to Garmin about it too, and suggested that, since in urban areas there is a prompt at 0.2 miles followed by a final one as you approach the turn, all that's needed is to use the same prompts for all roads, which should be simpler than at present. Although they replied to my email they didn't really address the complaint!

they agree that it is a problem - but say that it only exists on their UK mapping!
Given people in other countries have also complained about this, I think it's a Garmin problem, not a mapping problem at all...

I came onto the forum this morning to log the same complaint only to find somebody has beaten me to it! I nearly piled into the back of a car in front yesterday - decided to turn right but no indicator Evil or Very Mad - since I was doing exactly as described above; looking intently at the map to see precisely where I needed to turn since there were numerous options.
This is downright dangerous and if it doesn't get fixed soon I will look at my alternatives since I can't believe all units e.g. TomTom, Navman do this. Cheaper to buy another unit than pay for crash damage!
The OEM unit in my car, which I don't use because of its' lousy routing options, tells you the final turn within 10yds of the junction so you don't even need to look at the screen.

I agree it's dangerous, if you are not expecting it - I know the alert comes at 200 yards, and therefore know to avoid any immediate turning. At higher speeds, this is about the right warning time, but at 30mph (or less in urban areas), the alert should be later - basically, instead of setting the alert to occur at 200 yards before the junction, it should factor in the speed as well, alerting earlier for high speed, and later for lower speeds. That's quite a change for Garmin to introduce into the software though.

I find this extremely annoying also. Evil or Very Mad To contact Garmin, shall I just use the same Customer Service number in my booklet or is there another one to direct my complaint to? (I thought if more of us do this, then possibly something might be done in the next firmware update) Confused

This also drives me crazy.
But I never only go by the voice promt. I always double check the highlighted route...all this is after many wrong turns and irritating bouts of "recalculating".

Otherwise its a great piece of kit.
