I want to transfer my built in (RAM) maps to my NUVI 350 SD card so I can load my European maps into RAM - is this possible? |

It's not something I would recommend trying. The built in maps are in a particular compressed format, which is not the same format MapSource sends the additional map segments in. Also, there are unlock codes issues - how will you get the European unlock code into the unit as a primary map (as opposed to a supplemental map), and how will you get the unlock code for the US maps off the unit onto the SD card to allow those maps to still work...?
Basically, you could render your unit useless by trying, and I certainly wouldn't even start playing around unless you absolutely understand the 4 map filename standards and the 2 different map file formats, plus you have a full backup of everything on your Nuvi.
However, by deleting some unneeded files on the internal memory, you may be able to get some of the European maps into the internal memory, and then load the rest onto the SD card.
My experience is that the maps on the SD card are not noticeably slower, and with the costs of SD cards so cheap, I can't work out why you don't want to simply load the maps onto the SD card. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |

Ok, thanks for the useful information. I admit, I did not realize the compressed format nor the key information was part of the file ('tho I should have figured that out).

The unlock information isn't part of the file - on maps you load onto the unit it's an additional file, but for the US maps built in to your unit, it's actually not a file, and it's built into the SatNav unit, which makes it more difficult to retrieve. _________________ Please don't be offended if I do not reply to a PM - please ask questions via the forums. |
