a lot of the initial poi files are made up solely from postcode data which isn't that accurate. feel free to correct them on the poi page!

To be honest as MaFt says is down to ppostcode data but i am quite surprised how many POIs are way out, i would like to know how to alter them myself as i know this can help but some of the petrol stations must be about 200 yards from where they actually are and in an emergency this could be decieving

Not complaining by the way guys as you do a great service

I would agree with MaFt, it appears to be most of the major chains out of position probably due to postcoding, i have altered quite a few in my area and some others that i know about, i must admit it can be a bit of a pain doing one at a time but i try to reposition at least one every time on site, if everybody checked and cahnged some in thier areas i am sure they would be bought into line soon, try it they are very easy to reposition.

When you have tried to create an accurate POI category, from the inaccuracies in the Data available from the Companies involved, you will realise that getting it to with 200yards is quite an achievement.

Unless you visit each and every location personally.;)

Is there any method of altering several POI's within an area without having to submit change and then having to go back and repeat process to get back to original area on google maps?
i.e correct POI then option of change more within screen area?

Cheers

The OP's post was regarding Speed Camera POI's. These were not compiled from PostCode data!

To be fair, Darren, he mentioned Speed Cameras first, but then made more words out of other stuff.
I think maybe he has TWO problems. Didn't I read from some of our gurus that the camera warnings can come late if you've got too much stuff on the device - screen refresh or something?
Certainly some other POIs done by postcode are a bit unreliable - presumably the Post Codes as supplied by the relevant source are the original method of compiling the POI databases. Usually when we input a postcode for navigating, we're asked to insert a house number, but these POIs are not, so in many cases the POI will be located at the start or end of Postman Pat's "walk". The answer is exactly the same as the accuracy of the speed camera database - everybody who spots a mistake, notify it and eventually it will all come good. I've even done a few myself (even though it took me an hour to do just two last time, what with not RTFM-ing - I had to e-mail Richard to get him to sort out the mess I'd made of them!)

Hi Darren
I just jumped in on topic of POI accuracy in general and I do think there is some work to be done.
The POI interface is brill as is link with google maps/sat.
What would be useful however is some indication of local geo verification and date.
Certainly as far as databases go content is king.
Slowly working my way through a number of my local POI's and amending as necessary.....

Cheers

Yeah, this would be useful. When I use the 'Back' button, I get the whole UK view back. Just working my way through my local POI's. Lot's of them are out, although only by a hundred yards or so, but I'm sure visitors will appreciate them being spot on. Guess these ones must have been done via postcode. Anyway, I'll have them all sorted shortly.

This is currently a limitation of the Google API, I agree it is frustrating when you have a number of submissions to input but we're stuck with it at the moment Sad

Having started working my way through POI's in my home town, and then the larger nearby towns of Redcar and Middlesbrough, I'm becoming daunted over the number of errors I'm seeing (mostly due to the inaccuracy of postcodes I imagine). Petrol station and restaurant POI's are far enough away from their actual locations to cause major problems for drivers looking for them. If all towns are like these, we've got a big job on our hands getting them accurate.
