Sd Card wont work

I bought a new 1gig SD card,

have the tomtomv2 bought new yesterday,

problem is the satnav wont run the card just get a red cross on the screen,

is there a specific make etc to run the satnav on,

wont to add poi's etc and differant maps.

and can i copy this card i have GB/IRELAND onto the 1gig card etc.

i'm new so go gentle.
