I have been happily and successfully downloading the speed camera database via my PC to my Garmin i3 for a few months now using POIUploader. This afternoon I downloaded the latest camera database to my PC in exactly the same way I always do it, but after I uploaded the new POI file to my i3 I found that when I try to access the POIs (via the "Custom Points" option in the "Food, Hotels and More" submenu of the "Where To" menu) the unit just freezes and I eventually have to switch off by holding down the power button.

To cut a long story short, I uninstalled the speed camera database from my POI file and uploaded everything else and it works fine. I've tried this several times with the same result.

I've tried downloading the database as a single file and as files consolidated by type but it's just the same.

Is anyone else having this problem with the current database? Can anyone assist?

Thanks[/i]

I also have an i3, but no problems here.

One thing that you could try is to make sure you have the latest version of POILoader - CLICK HERE (just noticed a new version posted on 27 July 2007)

You should find an option to "Delete all existing POIs" or similar when you use POILoader. Try that first and then try running POILoader again to load the database.

Also have you tried just loading the database on its own?

Thanks PaulB2005,

I had a look and the updated version of POIUploader is only relevant if I were using a Swedish language version.

I already tried deleting all POIs then re-uploading them. Several times!

After much messing about it looks like it might be to do with the number of POIs I am trying to upload because when I strip it back to just a few files it works OK, but when I upload them all it doesn't. I suspect I had somewhere in the region of 150,000 POIs.

Perhaps up to last month I was just under the limit of POIs but maybe there are more speed camera locations on the latest database which coincidentally took me over the limit. Does anyone know if there is in fact a limit as to the number of POIs that can be uploaded to a Garmin i3 and what that limit is? Or is the fact that mine is now working with fewer uploaded just coincidence?

I'll get there eventually!

True but you might have had an even older version.

There is a limit on the number of Categories but not the number of POIs.

From the PGPSW POI Download page

Quote:
Special Note to i3 users: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL MORE THAN 85 POI CATEGORIES AS THIS WILL CAUSE YOUR UNIT TO FAIL TO BOOT! If you have a card reader make a backup of your Micro-SD card to PC before downloading these POIs. If you have a newer model with no transflash card then you should use POIs on a separate TransFlash card to avoid any possible corruption of the internal memory.

Does that help at all?
