Heeeeelp, OH Heeeelp!!!

Like any normal Dumbo, I allowed TT Home to download, then install v6.525 yesterday. Now my (Andrewcrane's) lovely, best thing since sliced bread, auto power off with ignition has gone to join the satellites in the sky. Evil or Very Mad

Dear sweet Andrew, please say you are working on a new one? I'd actually try using the current one from 6.524, but I am temporarily without a spare SD card ("borrowed" it for my new camera), so I haven't got a backup to take out with me - if I get a callout and 6.525 doesn't work with it, I'll be ******ed. Before the gurus jump on me, yes I have PC HD backups, but they stay at home when I go out and I could get a call any time, whereupon I have to "up and at it" - no time to re-copy the SD card from HD.

Alternatively, Oldboy do I really need v6.525? Anybody know what it does? Having said which, I've no idea what any other versions do, so if you tell me, I'll be none the wiser! 8O

As in Andy's Link, it's basically to do with TMC and even that is a debateable benefit.

I haven't bothered as I don't use TMC. Smile

Thanks Andy. You need to edit that post for the last version to read 6.525. I believe Date for that is early May 2007 (but I can't be sure - I only just downloaded it because I tend not to give them the chance to update me unless it's unavoidable - it didn't download with the 675 maps on 18th April anyway).
And a snippet of useful information is that the latest TT Home has got a nice new icon of a world with a hat on - Vveerryy useful. :D

From reading down them, it looks like TT are heading in the direction of excluding outsiders - all those useful little tweaks like the one from Andrew and the line out hands free thingy - I haven't even got round to looking at that one and they've jiggered it already. Why can't they accept good stuff from outside? It can only improve their product and they are getting the improvement for free. It's easy enough for them to say "Do it at your own risk", without introducing blockers. Why can't they "buy" Andrew's fix for the auto power off - give him a nice new TomTom or a couple of hundred quid? Why don't they download it for free themselves and cheat him out of the credit for it? Are they blind, stupid or all three?

I have just ordered 3 new SD cards (2GB) so I'll at least be trying the auto power off as soon as they arrive. They should be here yesterday at the cost of P&P I've paid - it's incredible that Amazon can charge £3.50 P&P for a single SD card. It's Censored Censored Censored that they charge £10.50 for 3!!! Grrrr Angry Evil or Very Mad

Which reminds me - How do I get my Chopin.mid ringtone out of my Nokia phone and into my TTGO700? In words of one syllable, links to all the free software that does it - you know - Dumbo speak? I picked up that it can be done from a recent TT newsletter (I think). Actually the details were for x10, but I want to try it on my 700 - Root directory as "ringtone.ogg". I got lost when the information said (and this is ALL it says) "Ogg Vorbis format, sample rate 8000, 16000 or 22050 Herz, make sure it's not too long (what's too long?) and loud enough to be heard in a noisy car (how loud's that?). By the way, all I know about .ogg files is how to download them from pgpsw, so the correct answer to this question is "You have an e-mail with Chopin.mid converted to ringtone.ogg. Laughing Laughing Laughing PS as a special treat, I have also included Nokia's Montuno.mxmf converted to smsreceived.ogg". Laughing Laughing Laughing

Thanks to you too Oldboy. Once again, Dennis rushes in where angels, Mekons and gurus know better than to tread. Will I ever learn? - I should have let it download but not install until I'd found out here whether to bother. Embarassed Embarassed

I shall now go off to RTFM of my nice new MacBook Pro to see how to go about recording the navigating instructions by the grandchildren - it's such a posh expensive laptop it's got a built in microphone! And wouldn't it just be the dog's ******s if I could have the pair of them shouting "Look out Dennis, here comes a speed camera!"

Welcome back - did all go well in the US of A?

Thank you, but I think a 4GB SD Card won't work in my Tom Tom GO710. Crying

Hey Andy Stop it! you're neither supposed to be reading Stanley Unwin, nor surfing around for smilies. You're supposed to be working on converting Chopin.mid and Montuno.mxmf to .ogg. Concentrate, young man. (Oh and watch out for the phone-in mistakes!) Mind you, I'm going to try and grab that smiley to send to my brother - the one with the head injury who now finds pleasure in going to various sites and giving them my e-mail address for junk attacks. Sad

Email me the files and I'll see what I can do (never even heard of an .mxmf though! It's some kind of midi file with the sounds encapsulated in it)

I know the "mid" one is a midi file that tells whatever hardware you've got to play the notes it says. That means it will sound more or less different depending on what you play it on (a PC soundcard as opposed to a mobile phone's sound chip for example).

Why can't life be simple. After Molto effort, I've managed to connect the phone to my PC, but when I try to copy off the two musics, it refuses, saying Copyrighted. Now, as you know, I've no wish to mess with anybody's copyright, but I own this damn phone. Anyway, off to try using my incredible expensive new MacBook Pro 17 to see what that has to say about the phone. Of course, I don't yet know how to use my incredible expensive new MacBook Pro 17, so we shall see - may have to go to the Nokia website to see if I can download them from there! The incredible expensive new MacBook Pro 17 has bluetooth, maybe that might help.

Incidentally, I'd have thought you'd instantly recognise .mxmf as a mixed, medium loud thing Laughing

Hey, on Preview I see Mullet has noticed it. Now why don't we have a competition to see which of Andy and Mullet can be first to felloniously steal those two files from Nokia, convert them to .ogg and send them to me. At least it's some comfort to know the experts are noticing. Twisted Evil

If you've got a microphone somewhere on that wonderous Mac, the easiest way might be just to record the sounds straight off your phone.

Of course "Audacity" won't work on the Mac, so you'll either need to export them as something the mac can write and the PC can recognise to convert them to .oggs, or find a convertor that works on the Mac itself! Smile

Hi Andrew, any chance you could post these tools?

I'd be happy to take a crack at no-op'ing the speed limit check that is so hated (unless of course you've already done it).

Thanks,

Mark B

can you PLEASE do the same to that damned red/flashing speed limit?

Must admit I was surprised when the image worked. It was 4 bytes shorter than the original so I was a tad worried. Will post tools shortly to allow everyone to make their own patches for the 6.5 firmware series.

Not sure I can be of assistance with the red speed limit thing (the auto-off was an "andrew" thing and a mission rather than a pocketgpsworld thing). What was the problem? The colour or the fact that it gets the speed limits wrong? I had an idea of making an application that makes the TTGO into a simple speedometer with a very big readout that changes colour (configurable) if you are speeding. Would this sort your problem?

Regards
Andrew
