thanks scoopjeff & RQ for the advice. panic over now as ive re boxed the pc and getting a refund as i need conectivity by firewire for my digital video camera and even tho it had a firewire port on the front it wasnt connected and couldnt be with the motherboard inside.

I should have explained it better, what you tried was the qiucklaunch at the bottom of the screen, what I meant to say was when you click on the start button in the bottom left corner & then right click on the tomtom icon in the recent programs list, then you will see the list with run as administrator there.
DOH! Silly me.
thanks for the explanation but still not there. before i packed the pc away last night i had a look using start. the only options there were, open, run as, scan with norton, win zip, email, pin to start, send to start menu, cut, copy, create short cut, delete, rename and properties. thanks for the advice but no need now as computer is being returned for refund.

I had problems installing TomTom Home on Vista and got no help from TomTom support (no surprise there...). After installing home successfully, vista would not recognize the tomtom device (a tomtom 910 go).
I had to manually find the drivers (they are in windows\system32).
