Garmin Nuvi and additional maps

Hi. Sorry if this is in another thread, but I couldn't find it.

I'm travelling to the US later this year and I was hoping to add a US map to my Nuvi 660. I've checked a few sites and they all charge approx £160 for the USA SD card.

I've got Mapsource City Navigator North America from a previous Garmin I had and I was wondering if I can re-use the data on the disc if I loaded it to an SD card?

Has anyone tried this?

You can normally use the data on two Garmin devices, so yes you should be ok. Amazon.com(USA) have the City Navigator for $110, don't know if thats any use.

Do you know if you can run the maps off the SD disc though?

The maps will run fine from the card.

I've got my US map file (the region I want) and I transfered it onto my SD card, but when I try and use it on the Nuvi, it doesn't show up? I transfered the maps directly to the Nuvi and it tells me the maps are locked? I unlocked the maps when I had my Garmin 2720, so why can't I use them now?

I've already got the maps unlocked from my previous unit? If the maps are already unlocked for my 2720, do I still need to unlock them for my Nuvi?

The unlock code is device specific, although when you pay for full mapping, you are often granted 2 unlock codes.
