Got a 910i yesterday in replacement for a second duff Garmin Nuvi 660. Like it but the safety cameras confuse me! In the Orange plus leaflet, it says tap TomTom PLUS services, tap safety cameras and they are then activated.
Mine don't appear to be. Do I have to activate the PLUS account first by a GPRS connection before they will appear? If so, can this be done by a wireless Wifi connection instead as I have no GPRS connection set up on my bluetooth phone yet?
If I download the latest ones from this site instead, in what folder do they go in and can they be put in by using the TomTom Home application?

Doug,
I can't answer all the questions you ask but I can help with on'e. If youve downloaded the speed cams from here, extract them to the map folder which you are using, i.e. if you're using the Uk map extract them there. Sorry I'm unsure if they can be installed using the home application as I never do it that way. I always extract the zoned cam files to the relevant folder from putting the sd card in my laptop. I appreciate you can't do this as the 910 has a hard drive....but that's the folder I install mine to.
If you hang on a wee while someone more knowledgable than myself will give you a more definative answer, peeps on this site are very helpful.

It could be that you have to set up a PLUS account on your PC, associate it with your 910 and then HOME will (might, should?) download the database for you. I have not subscribed to the TT one, but HOME did download it for me once and once only, after I had set up an account.

You shouldn't need to activate a PLUS account just to start the free installed TT Safety cameras - tap cameras worked for me. What do you mean by "don't appear to be"? Have you driven past cameras? The free installed ones will be very out of date. For the updates, you have to join up (subscribe) to PLUS account first. I dumped them pretty quickly.

I'm biased, but I would recommend you to use the cameras from this site - Tom Tom PLUS cameras will cost you £20 a year (I think), with updates obtained via your PC and the TT PLUS website and I have yet to read any comment that they are worth it. On the other hand if you subscribe to this site for just a month's membership at £2, you will be able to try the cameras out for a fraction of the cost. If you were to use this site's camera database, you would download a zip file, unzip it and then copy the unzipped files into the Western Europe Map folder on your 910. That's not quite all - you then have to enable them (activate) and do their settings. Once you've done that, the next update is simply download, unzip and copy - the camera warning settings are retained from previous.
As for GPRS, my phone (Nokia 6230i with Bluetooth) somehow managed to do it when my 910 asked for it with very little effort on my part except for saying "Yes" in the right places. But I don't use it as it costs for every connection/download of TT updates.

Thanks chaps. Dennis - I am already a member of this site and have been for a long time. I have used both the TomTom and Garmin Safety cameras before but the 910 with its hard drive looks different.
Looking down the list of PO's in manage POI's, the speed cameras don't appear. They are in the map directory as looked at on my computer last night but clicking the "enable speed camera" in preferences does nothing.
Perhaps I am not making myself clear?
Also there is a free months subscription to th Plus services. Does one need a GPRS connection to activate this? It asks for a bluetooth connection which is set up but, again, I have no GPRS account, so it doesn't work.

The TomTom cameras don't appear as standard POIs in the Manage POIs menu. You don't need a GPRS connection either.

Look, Andy, I am over 50 so allowed to be old and confused!! I meant the 910 but I have the SE P990i as my phone so a bit of cross pollination has happened!
On my old TT1 and on my recent HP6915 with TT, the safety cameras appeared as individual entries on the POI list. On here I have nothing, just the preinstalled POI's it came with.
I think I will put the GPRS setup on my phone anyweay ans see what happens. I think I need it anyway to set up for my months Plus trial.
Thanks
Doug

You will have to activeate the free trile by going to the tt site and using to supplied code in my point of view its a wase of time.
I subed to the tt cams and find thay are not very up to date so i use the ones from here. if these are the ones you are haveing troble inputting all you have to do is download cams and put the bmp & ov2 files in the western_and_central_europe folder then go to manage poi's / warn when near poi's/ and set distences then just check change preferences/enable disable poi's and make sure thay are ticked.
P.S
The free trial will give you one months free traffic but you will need to set up your gprs to recive it.
I found that to be naff as well.
Hope this helps

Hi Tony,
Thanks for that. I will not bother and put the cameras on from here instead. Used them before on my other GPS machines and are definitely good and up to date.
Just wondered whether you had to use TomTom Home to put them in but it appears not.

The mount locking ring has two click positions, the first stage locks the device to the screen, the second click positon locks the ball preventing the mount drooping. There have been issues in the past with the mount - but before going any further can you ensure the mount locking ring is fully locked - Mike
