Newbie!

Hi everyone. Just got myself a Nuvi 610T (two weeks ago) and have a couple of questions.
I downloaded the updates from the Garmin site and lost just about everything! No maps, poi's etc. Spoke to Garmin and had the unit replaced. Do I need the latest software update, and if I do, how do I do it safely?
I am currently running version 2.60

Not sure if you need the latest update - you would have to find out what it fixes / introduces and make that decision yourself. Of course GARMIN will ask you to update to the latest s/w if you ever reported an issue.

Don't know what went wrong with your original update. I have the 660 and I upgraded using the GARMIN WebUpdater s/w and it went like a dream.

When connecting with WebUpdater with your new 610T it wold be worth checking if it offers you an update to the TMC s/w. If it does - check the version number - if it's 3.90 consider not updating! GARMIN seem to have screwed this update a bit - rendering the TMC capability next to useless in the UK. They are supposed to be releasing a fix any day now.
