I have an i3 and have sent off and received the CD with the V9 maps on it.

I have now got a 1gb micro SD card which I have installed into the unit.

I installed the maps onto my computer, but am struggling to work out how to get the maps onto my i3. Confused

I connected the unit and told the machine that the unlock code was contained within the unit. It searched and was happy that it had it - however, the map itself on my computer screen still stated in the bottom right hand corner that the maps were still locked? Evil or Very Mad

I thought perhaps the computer screen hadn't refreshed or something, so I tried installing the maps anyway, but it kept saying I needed to add waypoints (and routes?) first. Can I not just add the whole map?

Please help as I have no idea what is going on?!!? .....or is there another idiot's guide on this site somewhere that already has the answer? Embarassed

I had the same problem, so phoned garmin. They said the unlock code I had was for v8, and gave me the v9 code over the phone. When I used that I was able to upload the maps to the i3 without further problems.

My i3 has v8 maps and I want to upgrade to v9 (DvD apparently in post)

So, some questions:

1. Where are the maps held - on the unit or on the 256 SD card (my i3 is one which came with a card)

2. Can I update to my card (if this is where the maps are) by plugging the i3 unit into my PC via USB? (or do I need some kind of card reader?)

3. If I upgrade the maps, how much space will I have for POIs? Anyone else managed to do this with an i3 with 256 card?

Cheers

I've been struggling with this for a few weeks now :x
I've been through all the threads, looked through several that have been 22 pages long Rolling Eyes .

I've got the i3 with the 256 memory card in it.
I received the v9 update DVD.
I ran the disk which uploaded the software onto my pc.
I managed to unlock the software with the relevent unlock codes.
Thats it !! There is nothing to say how to get the software from my pc to replace the v8 software on the garmin.
Even if I use the webupdater, it only updates things like voice and other bits and bobs.

How do I get the garmin i3 to connect to the pc to collect the maps ?
Mapsource only uploads individual maps you create, not the full v9 update....doesn't it ? Confused

Thanks
Rob

Glad to hear it, Rob. It's simple when you know how!

I received the instructions from Garmin in response to an email I sent them prior to the DVDs being sent out. In an earlier thread I offered to email them to anyone who wanted them, but MaFt kindly offered to put them on his website instead. I must have sent them to around 50 people though!

Can't understand why Garmin didn't send them out with the DVDs or put them on the website. Confused

Edited to correct spelling of Garmin!

unfortunately, I got another problem now !
The garmin unit wont come on now. Initially it froze when I clicked on show map, and after doing this several times I reset the unit holding all 3 buttons down.
Now, it freezes at the point of selecting english as the language.
It wont erase all data on the card either, I thought it might need erasing and then the new maps putting back on.

What do I do now ? aaarrrgggghhhh Heeeeelllllllllllp ! Crying or Very sad

I'm tempted to drop kick this bloomin thing over the houses across the street....its a pain int'tharse.

Did you back up the card to your pc before loading the v9 maps?

If so you could try copying the original files from your pc back to the card, using a card reader. If that works, buy a new card (a bigger one if you want to include some of Europe), load the v9 maps onto that, and copy the POI and Voice files from the v8 back up. Then you've at least still got the original card intact.

Or you could ring Garmin. They're usually very helpful.

Then ring Garmin on 0808 238 0000 and explain what happened. They may be able to help you.

And if you do get it sorted out, make sure you back up your card! And the cards are so cheap now, it's worth putting the v9 maps on a new one, so you've still got the original if you have a problem with the new maps.

update :
I sent it back to Garmin, they replaced it.
They sent it back with no maps on it at all :x
I'm really with them, it would have been nothing for them to put the maps on it and test it. :x
I've gone to load the maps and I get a message telling me the maps are not unlocked.
I've been through all the steps of making sure everything is unlocked, got the code etc etc....it even tells me the v9 is unlocked, but when I send them to the unit, it then says they are not unlocked.
I really am gonna smash this thing shortly :x

Anyone help me please ?

Does the unlock code relate to the previous i3? If so you may need a different code to unlock the maps to the replacement unit. Can only suggest another call to Garmin.
