Last week I bought a Nokia 6230i PAYG phone from O2. Tried to set the phone to access TT Traffic with no success and, more significantly no help at all from the O2 "Customer Services" people. I was just told very rudely that "O2 will not support any non o2 supplied device". And this despite the assertion from the sales staff at the O2 shop that the phone and their service were "fully compatible with TomTom sat nav devices".

So, after reading through the threads on this forum, I bought a T-Mobile PAYG sim card, had the phone unlocked and again tried to establish a connection. Each time I try to gat Traffic information the phone throws up an error message "Subscribe to GPRS service first". I contacted the T-Mobile support people who have - mostly - been very helpful, but I still cannot get the connection. I know that there is no problem with the handset as it works perfectly with my vodafone card installed (this is from a phone supplied by my employer and I don't like to use it for personal calls; hence the need for a different handset.

I have tried the the settings provided by T-Mobile, the Nokia website and those given on this forum but no of them seems to work. From the little knowledge I have gleaned it seems that there are two places on the phone where various settings can be changed. The first of these is the Settings / Connectivity menu, the other is Settings / Configuration.

Would some kind soul please let me know what should be entered into which area and help save my sanity? Smile Smile

Many thanks in advance,

Colin

Many thanks for the response Mike. I have tried to use the settings given by rodderstrotter, namely:-

Homepage: http://wap.t-mobile.co.uk/ or http://www.t-zones.co.uk/
GPRS APN address: general.t-mobile.uk
Gateway (IP) address :149.254.001.010
Username : user or wapuser
Password: wap
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Port number: 9201
Authentication: Normal

I have also tried the settings sent to me by T-Mobile (as suggested by rodderstrotter) but these would only allow access to the t-zones site.

Looking at my phone settings I can see:-

Settings/Connectivity/GPRS/GPRS Connection
This offers the choice of 'Always online' or 'When needed' - [Set to 'Always online']

Settings/Connectivity/GPRS/GPRS modem settings/Active access point
Offers a choice of Access points from 1 to 10 - [Set to 'Access point 1]

Settings/Connectivity/GPRS/GPRS modem settings/Edit active point/Alias for access point
Offers the opportunity to rename an access point - [Left as the defult of 'Access point 1']

Settings/Connectivity/GPRS/GPRS modem settings/Edit active point/GPRS access point
[Set to general.t-mobile.co.uk]

Settings/Configuration/Default configuration
[Currently empty]

Settings/Configuration/Preferred access point/Access point/Access point/Details
[This returns the following information:-
'Configuration settings:
Personal config.
Data bearer: GPRS
GPRS access point: internet']

Thus I cannot see where to enter any of the following:-

Homepage: http://wap.t-mobile.co.uk/ or http://www.t-zones.co.uk/
Gateway (IP) address :149.254.001.010
Username : user or wapuser
Password: wap
Session type: Continuous / permanent
Port number: 9201
Authentication: Normal

Sorry for the length of this post - I hope it makes sense! Smile Smile

Phone T-Mobile and stress that you want full internet access activating when using GPRS, they need to send some comands to the phone which takes the form of a text message. Make sure you stree the Full Internet via GPRS and not just the WAP service or T-Zone access - Mike

Mike,

Thanks again for your response. I have just finished a 75 minute phone call with the T-Mobile technical support people. In passing, I must say that with one exception all of their customer support people have been very helpful in trying to resolve this problem. However, I am no closer to solving this and it seems likely that the root of the problem might be that I am in an area where ther is a poor signal at present (they are having difficulties with one of their relays in the Northampton area). I think I'll just have to try it again when I'm in an area with a much stronger signal.

Cheers,

Colin
