|
|
I can buy the latest GB (ver 710) map for £29.95 or the Western Europe map (ver710) for £39.95.
The Western Europe option looks good value here unless there is some disadvantage.
For UK use what difference would I see?
Thanks

The same question will still apply when the new ones come out! |

The difference between the UK and the EU mapping is both cover 99% of the streets but their is more detail to the GB map like rivers trees etc. than the EU. _________________ NEW Tomtom GO 500 (hope it is good)

1. Never seen a tree on my maps!
2. Are you sure about the detail? I thought all the detail differences were between map VERSIONS or between the WE and the W+CE map or the larger and smaller versions of the same map, I don't remember anyone saying there was a difference in the detail between the UK and the WE map of the same number. |

I recently purchased the WE map v7.10. Compared to my original v6 map, I can confirm that there is at least as much detail for GB use on the new map compared to the old.
BUT....!!! I purchased and downloaded the 1.7Gb version of the WE map....TT also sell a version slightly less than 1Gb, presumably designed to fit on a 1Gb SD card. Thus it's quite possible (likely?) that there is less detail on this 'smaller' map and this might be the situation for all countries inc GB. _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

I have a 2 Gb card in my original version TomTom One, so I could put the 1.7 Gb Western Europe map on, but since it is not "recommended" for the One will I have trouble installing it?
TomTom Home won't let me buy the 1.7 Gb version so I guess I would have to download it separately by telling TomTom site I have a different machine and install it manually...then will I get in a tangle with serial numbers/activation codes etc?
Thanks

We don't know yet, that's the point.
All this has changed in the last few days.
Until a few people are brave enough to continue buying the "wrong" version,we won't know if a way round it can be found,or whether TomTom will change the behaviour of Home agian, if they get lots of complaints. |

I did indeed purchase the 1.7Gb WE map by specifying that I have a TT 910 or similar. Works fine on my TT1 original on a 66x 2Gb SD card. Can't see why TT or anyone would object - the 2 WE map versions are the same price.
I did this with the previous version of Home, but I think that's largely irrelevant - I used the TT website directly to purchase the map and then it appeared on Home for download. Of course, TT might have changed the map purchase methodology by now (because they can, not because it's a Good Idea!) _________________ TT GO app on Android Phone

Thanks for all the inputs and sorry to keep flogging this topic!
Just noticed that the ver 710 GB map is 126 Mb, whereas the ver 675 is 252 Mb. So is 710 also a "less geographical detail" version compared to its predecessor v675 ?
Unlike the Europe maps (where there are the 900Mb and 1700Mb versions) there only seems to be one size (126Mb) of the ver 710 GB map.
Or has the reduction in size been achieved by other means?
It doesn't all hang together...wish TomTom could be a bit clearer.
I guess I am not too bothered about "geographical detail" as long as the road info is the same, and presumably ver 710 is more up to date than ver 675?
Thanks again

Thanks for quick reply!
That makes sense, I didn't spot that difference.
So the GB ver 710 should have the same geographical detail as the Europe 710 (1700Mb version) and more than the Europe 900 Mb version ?
Thanks

I can't give a definitive answer as I have nothing to compare one against the other, but I would assume that that is the case. _________________ Richard
