hello

just a quick question, i think i read somewhere that if you use the i3 with a SD Card with more than 512mb capacity, it will slow the unit right down.

Say for example i was doing a european road trip i would need an SD card with more than 512mb capacity to get the maps onto it... so if i got a 1GB card would this slow my i3 unit right down if the card was full of maps?

thanks...

You don't actually need to load all of Europe, just the areas you expect to
be travellling through.

I reguarly take my Garmin i3 to America. I've got a 512MB TransMemory
card. The Garmin maping software defines the detail maps by region.

I can get about half the entire USA onto this card, which is sufficient for
any one trip. I do also have the software on my laptop, so I could
even change the contents whilst I'm there, but have never needed to do this.

It takes the Garmin about 10 minutes after you first turn it on, when
you've travelled so far. Probably does not believe that I've move 5000
miles since I last used it! After that it's fine. You can even change
the TZ so the clock is right.

I have seem it mentioned a few times that 512 is the max size card that should be used with an i3, does everyone agree?

Does the type of card make any difference to speed. I notice that 80x micro SDcards are available, are these any better?

Thoughts?
