Is it possible to use Mapopolis to have it follow a route, like Route 66 or US1? Would it be possible using any kind of software?
thx |

Yes, you can create a destination, and then add as many "route throughs" as yo need to keep the route on track. _________________ Lutz

That assumes you need to know where your route begins and ends, and what towns it goes through. You would be better off just driving blindly though the countryside in that case.
The purpose of mapping software is to map your routes for you... |

The purpose of 'navigation' software is to navigate you from Point A to point B. _________________ Darren Griffin |

You miss the point. It calculates its own route. No GPS Navigation system offers what you desire. The nearest is to create the route using 'waypoints' through which it must pass between Points A and B. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Tgen why bother spending US$500 on something that's not any better than a $3 paper map? |

I once tried what you suggested. Just a short trip to the other side of town, which I usually just drive down a road that's only a block away. The software first had me go two miles farther away to pick up a main highway, then drive around the skirts of the city to the Interstate highway, then to the destination. 28 miles for the usual 14 mile trip. I even tried it selecting to avoid major highweays, in which case the software replied with "Can't generate a route." |

If you are happy with your $3 paper map, stay with your $3 paper map.
Navigation systems help you find from Point A to Point B in unfamiliar areas, and it is not important if they use the optimal route (whatever that is) or not. It is important that they get you to Point B even if you deviate from the route they propose.
Navigation systems do not compete with local knowledge. _________________ Lutz

If the software takes you WAY out of the way to get you to someplace after you select the shortest route settings ( straight down the street you're on, in this case), including avoiding major highways, it should not take you to the nearest major highway, which is miles in the wrong direction to begin with.
These things need to elvolve some more. |

Which software did you try? Your last post in the other thread two days ago was enquiring about Mapopolis software. Did you buy that?
The map data used by an app and the app itself can have a large bearing on the rout calculated. _________________ Darren Griffin |
