which gps for a motorbike and how to waterproof

Looking for a gps unit for a 2210, its going to be used in car, on motorbike and on foot. The best option i think would be a cf or a bt type gps reciever. though the bt recievers cost quite a lot more money so id prefer to go with a cf one.

ive looked at a few units the haicom 303mmf and 303s, and the sysonchip. though the 303s i cant seem to find any uk sellers, and its not listed on the haicom site, was there a problem with this unit? i'd prefer a unit without a big antenna sticking out of the top like the sysonchip as this will cause a problem when water proofing the ipaq.

does anyone have any experiance with using a pocketpc with gps on a bike/motorbike and waterproofing it, the best way i can think of is just a small clear plastic bag, im sure there must be a better solution though.

Hi samriley, I have just got a 2210/CF setup to use in the car. on the motorcycle and walking.
so far so good! Smile

When I was doing my research this LINK was very helpful.

For waterproofing I think I will try either keeping it in my tank bag map pocket or a plastic bag.

For the Ipaq you could use a tank bag, most of them have clear map pockets in them or check out the Otterbox. RAM do a mount which will connect to the Otterbox.

I have a RAM mount for my Garmin GPS-V on my CBR600, they work well.

Kane Car Pilot Lux is available specifically for motor cycle use. If the motor cycle package was purchased it is readily used in a car by the addition of a windscreen bracket from a third party supplier.

It is probably easier for me because I run a GoldWing, but I have my iPaq mounted from the lip on top of the dash so that it sits tight up behind the windscreen and is thus protected from the worst of the weather. All I do when it is raining is to slip a clear fronted plastic bag over it. I have had no problems whatsoever.

I use bluetooth with the receiver mounted in the boot which gets a perfectly serviceable signal, even with a luggage rack on top.

cheers all, i think i will just go for the plastic bag approach, i found that otter case before it looks nice but imo too expensive. as for the gps does anyone know somewhere that sells the haicom-303s, cant seem to find that one anywhere.

ok no edit button, ive changed my mind i think ill avoid xtrac and just go with the mmf model. anyone know the best place to buy one of these?

I wish I knew - globalpositioningsystems.co.uk have the Evermore based HI-303E and the Xtrac HI-303S, but they no longer stock the HI-303MMF. I'm not sure anyone in the UK does now Sad

The other advantage of the HI-303 series for the proposed application here is that you can fit any of them into the HI-401 Bluetooth slipper.
