[b][i]But [u]HOW do you get into the post code search mode? All i've got is a keyboard that allows me to type in the full street name and number of house. My mates are all fick and yet they can post code search on Tom Tom!

Press the address button on the find menu.

Press the other city button (top right hand corner)

The display should chnage to enter name/post code

enter post code as

B1 2HQ

It should then give you a list of the for that post code

Select the post code - it will switch to the map display - press route to.

Thank you! Thank you!
I can now search by postcode!
Theres something very worrying when you pay £300+ for a piece of kit and the instructions are minimal.
I appreciate your input. I still don't think the software is intuitive and reckon I'm going to bang the drum for Tom Tom and e-bay this slick looking piece of kit.

I agree with your comment about the quality of the documentation - although this is my first sat nav so can not compare it with others.

Like most technology, these days, you need a trial period to see if it does what you want, how you want it.

I sure other devices have their negatives aswell.

Have you downloaded the hardware and software manuals from the Mio web site? They are quite comprehensive and a search on 'postcode' explains how to do it.

I have to admit that I havn't.
What I have done is accessed the instruction disc that came with it and the instructions were again, minimal.
I will try their website but have to say this is not a "take it out the box and use it" piece of kit and the written instructions and cd instructions are worthy of Ikea!

Well I'm not one to defend Mitac, but the printed leaflet is clearly labelled a "Quick Start Guide" and tells you on the front cover that if you need more in-depth information you can download it from their web site.
In view of the many possible languages, I think that's quite reasonable.
This is a very complex device and of course it can't be comfortably used out of the box without any study.

i think the online user manuals are invaluable :D

having said that, they're still woefully lacking when it comes to things like using an SD card and other probable infrequent functions Crying or Very sad

I propose sally writes the next version - for a reasonable fee, and includes all the missing bts collected on this forum.

that's assuming that sally has the time and inclination to do this Wink

i think, though, that Mio should do a better job of field testing their products and manuals and this testing should ideally be carried out by people who are not familiar with the product

Blackpoolrockseller did sell it on ebay-and I bought it. Haha. How weird. I think it's a great piece of kit and love it. the only problem I've had though is the 3.2 update keeps timing out. Anyone else found this?
