I've previously updated and installed maps on my 500 using the ZIP downloads, but having bought V6.6 Western Europe I find that the ZIP download is no longer offered ("Please use TomTom HOME...").

No reply yet from TT support, though I'm not confident that they'll come up with anything useful. The map download page does say that "There are two ways to download and install maps" but I suppose that no longer applies.

Am I able to copy the files off someone elses Go and activate it myself? Will the DVD work without TT HOME? I suspect they will tell me to buy the SD version or find someone with a Windows box.

Suggestions invited!

I don't know how the Files are stored/compressed on the DVD, but am assuming they will be CAB Files.

If you have the DVD, you should be able to Unzip the CAB File that is the Compressed Map. If you can Install to a Folder on the PC then it's just a case of Copy/Paste.

I now stand back, waiting for the flood of corrections.Smile

TT HOME will run under WINE - need a few tweaks but is does work. The only thing that doesn't work within Home is the emulator.

Backing up and restoring as well as installing/removing all work fine.
