I've been trying to locate European Street Level maps for my 520 which replaced my lost 510. I can't see any mention of them on Navmans web site. Can anyone direct me to the latest European street level maps that will run on my 520 running 2005 S/W version?
Thank you Brian.

There has been lots of discussion on this subject since about late September. See http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=46536&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= for example.

Basically, the old maps are no longer available and Navman have said that there will be an upgrade of the SmartSt software this month plus new maps. If you want the latest details, I suggest you fire off an email to Navman Store and ask them what is the latest expected date for the launch of the new software. Incidentally, there has been no mention of the proposed price of the package - it has been assumed that it will be similar to previous prices of similar products ie around Euro 149 or £99. Wink

I have the European maps on CD that came with my 520. I don't need these if they are what you are looking for.

Thanks guys...........I think I'll wait for the 2006 update before parting with £100.

I would not pay a cent for the CD's - they are worthless without an activation key.

Infact I wonder why Navman have not allowed people to download maps over the internet yet. It would be a lot easier and cheaper than the handling of phyical media. After all a Coountry or State (if in US) must only be a few hundred meg. Big for a download, yes, but not unmanageable, and certainly cheaper than shipping CD's and boxes around the world.

The only possibility I can come up with is that they can't afford to cut out the middlemen and retailers.

That's what I always thought but not necessarily according to Navman in a recent conversation. There is, however, a caveat Wink

If Shirley Temple wishes to PM me, I will explain...

I'd be very interested in any comments because my old 510 European maps did not have an activation key and I have just sold them on eBay with no complaints.

Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm not sure what an activation key is.

I have the 3 CDs Maps of Europe for SmartST 2005. These are in the unopened sleeve & have the code on the back AS008071A.

They are how they came with my 520, so I presume they would work OK. I now don't need them as I have a 550.

Evil or Very Mad I have to assume you guys are not using this forum to pass information on how to illegaly copy maps in the personal messages, as that would be against the rules, wouldn't it. Twisted Evil

This business of map updates intrigues me, i always, wrongly, assumed you could update maps via the internet. since buying my first and second icn i realize you can't. And also am led to believe that the latest maps will always be at least 18months out of date anyway. I've just bought an icn550 and two local bypasses are not on the map despite the fact they were planned many years ago and building has now finished, so the final route would've been known for sometime. So, how i see it, due to the cost and the fact the updated maps will be out of date anyway there's no point buying updates, you might aswell struggle along with what you have and buy a new sat nav every few years.
I looked at the cost of buying european maps for the icn320 and it was going to cost twice as much as the icn did, so what's the point? i just bought an icn550 with european maps loaded (bargain at the moment from toys r us)
