Hi all new to the forum so i hope this is the right section to post in, Righty, I've just got my TomTom One, New Edition, Uk and Ireland, but the thing i don't understand is the following, I went out today to test it, i went on roads that i knew as part of the test.
Now, along the journey tomtom told me to take a couple of right turns which were actually no right turns, later on in the journey it took me up a street that was a dead end, from my local knowledge the turns tomtom told me to take used to be valid turns, the thing is the no right turns and dead end street came into effect over a year ago.
So if i have the new edition how can these problems occur i would have thought more than a year would be plenty of time to have the map updated, or am i missing something, BTW I had tomtom set to take me the shortest route, could this be the problem, Thankyou.

The time scale for getting Road changes into the final Product can take more than 2 years.

TeleAtlas, or Navteq, can only be in a few places at any one time. It takes them several months to collect, and several more months to re-compile, the Data into a new Database.

TomTom then takes several months to compile that Database into the format that they want, selecting the elements of information that their Software will be using.

That can be well over a year out of date already, and it's still not on the shelves.

As to Shortest Route, it can be a problem on Long Journeys, but not so much a problem for 'just around the corner'. I think Fastest is the most used Option.

Its always best to treat these devices as aids rather than an ultimate guide. Your experience is pretty usual and I always pay attention to my sat nav when I am nearer my destination if I know most of the route.

For instance, I know how to get to Manchester from Basingstoke or at least know my prefered route so I really only listen to my sat nav when I'm approaching Manchester on the motorway. After that, dead ends aside Smile , I don't know the local area so leave it to the system. If it takes me a long way round after that I don't really care that much as long as it gets me there.

Testing on a known local route is always a disapointment because you know all the short cuts and the "out of date" maps will never show the most recent road changes.

The other big benefit is as a route changer should there be traffic problems. Its saved my bacon a number of times even though I know its probably added more miles on the re route than perhaps I would have done given time and a set of maps. Peace of mind is worth so much more....

Enjoy...and you will
