Ok i'll make it short and simple, since you guys seem so nice i'll spare you all the long mumbo jumbo.

I want to put my ipaq 3970 in my Audi and use it for audio instructed driving directions. I am aware that HP just started selling a bluetooth navigation package that is compatible with my ipaq. I also know that it is a re-brand of a GPS bluetooth unit called the Globalsat BT 308. I am happy with this, as it has gotten great reviews. So I am about to purchase but I have a few questions.

1) If I buy this package, does anyone know if the software that comes with it is any good? If it's not, can I simply buy destinator 3 and be happy?

2) How much space do I need for maps? Will I need to buy an SD card (512mb) for map data? (i have quiet a bit of room left right now on my ipaq)

3) Can I use this bluetooth device with my apple powerbook ? (has built in bluetooth)

4) What sotware would I use with my powerbook?

5) Is there some other alternative that I am not considering. I already own the ipaq, i figure it's a no brainer.

Thanks

Firstly where are you located as this has some bearing on the best solution. Assuming the UK, the HP solution is ok but not the best, were it me I'd go with TomTom Navigator or CoPilot Live.

The Globalsat BT is a great unit but again things move fast and there are better units available. The Fortuna ClipOn BT is a neat (and tiny) unit but read our reviews and see which you prefer.

The TomTom UK Map requires 96Mb, get as big a storage card as you can, 256MB CF/SD can be had for less than £60 these days, oh and you'll want a nice mount solution, grab a Brodit PDA Cradle and ProClip and you won't regret it :D

you metioned that the fortuna is quicker to recover from a loss of satelite fix. But you gave it a 75% review rating, whereas you gave the one i am considering a 95%. Do you think that it is neccesary to choose one over the other?

Lutz, our US Editor may want to chip in with software recommendations but as you say, the GlobalSat is a very good unit, you would not be dissappointed with it :D
