I have been happily running TTv3 on my PDA but would now like to try out the new Nav v6 software and maps.
Has anyone had any success in running v6 on an HP5500 PDA?
I don't need any of the fancy telephone capabilities.
I really only want to get an upgrade of the GPS system facilities, and of course, up-to-date maps. Has any one tried this 'old' PDA with this new release? I don't fancy spending £90.00 and finding it wasted. I can't afford a new PDA and car mounts right now.

regards

No problems at all running it on the HP5500 although I see in your signature that you only have a 1GB SD card and you will only just get the whole map of Western Europe on that and nothing else at all. If you want the whole map of Western Europe, you will really need to upgrade your SD card.

It actually loads quicker on the smaller maps, so unless you need street level detail of all of Western Europe, I would suggest loading the GB or GB plus maps.

Can I assume that TT6 will also work with my Ipaq 5550?

I've looked at the TomTom site, and it doesn't list my 5550 as compatible with the GPS reciever?

I use ttv5.210 on my ipaq 5550. I haven't looked at this forum for sometime, as I previously read that v6 would not be available.

So, is ttv6 available to run on my ipaq 5550? Is there an upgrade, is it worth it? And probably the most important, are there new maps with postcodes for GB????

So many questions :-)

Thanks in advance

TT6 is available as a full retail product and not an upgrade and it will run on your 5500. The maps are newer and contain postcodes for GB. If you want to buy it, I would recommend you buy it on DVD where you get the choice of installing individual countries, those countries plus major roads of Europe or a single street level map of all of Western Europe (1GB). On the SD card you only get one country or all of Western Europe.

TT6 does not do much more than TT5, still does less than TT3, and you would have to decide for yourself if you feel this is really worth spending nearly £100 on. The maps are updated and you need to consider how often you get problems with the maps being out of date on TT5. I only really experienced this on a very few new road layouts such as the A1M/M62 junction. If you were a delivery driver this may be more important.

Supposedly new maps are going to be released for TT5 and the decision whether to go for these would be based on the cost of these compared to the cost of TT6. If £100 is no consideration, you are probably best going for TT6. You will also still own TT5 and can use it on another PDA if you buy TT6 when in the past the previous version was no longer valid after an upgrade.

Thanks for your reply. All things considered, I think waiting for an upgrade of the maps on my existing tt5 is my best option. Is there any idea as to when the upgraded maps for tt5 will be available?

As a TT3 user who was thinking of buying TT6 (I started this thread), I am aghast to hear that TT6 doesn't have better functionality than TT3.

So that begs the big question ... OK TT6 will work on my Ipaq 5500, but is there any point in 'moving up'?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

It probably has some more functions than TT3 such as showing street names whilst navigating and POI proximity warnings but where it loses out from my point of view is its one size fits all configuration. I liked the way TT3 could be customised such as road speeds for different roads, hardware buttons, menu order etc. Also I really liked the logging feature of the GPS driver. Now a some of these custom features can be done in TT6 but they are not menu driven and require some software type skills in replacing files etc.

The big driver is that there are no map updates for TT3.

Interesting ...
.... I agree that the maps ar ethe decider here , but it amazes me there is no choice for road speeds ... and I suppose no preference for sie roads etc.

Don't you need Windows 2003 or above for TTN6 to work?. I upgraded to 2003 and TTN 6 goes fine on my 5455

If you delete all the voice files for other languages and just retain the 2 UK ones, you can also get the full PGPSW speed related camera files plus all the .OGG files for camera announcements as well as the Sainsbury's and Tesco.ov2 files , also my personal favoutite on a 1gig SD card and have about 11.8mb free.
With all the above V6 takes just under 4 seconds to load to the map view.
Which compared to V3 which I was running and took 20 seconds to load with the same POI's
