Hi all.

A friend of mine has just bought (what we think is) TTN 5. I qualify it that way due to something I've read in here and hopefully someone can shed some light on the matter.

He has installed the software, and installed the GB map. When starting up his device/TTN5 application he just gets a message "No Maps Found". He has not yet been asked anywhere for an activation code, nor does the screen display a device code. How would you access this code?

I asked him what CD he was using to install the maps and he said everything (inc the TT app) is on a DVD. Now according to some posts I've seen on here, TTN5 was supplied on CD and TTN6 is supplied on DVD. Is this correct? Is it REMOTELY possible that (you guessed it, it's an ebay purchase) that someone has sent him the TTN5 app but the TTN6 maps? He said the product etc looks genuine and unused.

Currently I cannot contact him again until later, but could it be possible he's been sent TTN6 in error. If this software etc is installed on a PDA that won't run it, would similar problems be happening?

Any help appreciated.

It does look a bit iffy. TTN5 was indeed supplied on 7 CD's and TTN6 is on a DVD.

How does the product look genuine and unused? Did it come in a sealed wallet?

Even if it iis a TTN5 app, with a TT V5 Map, if it's dodgy it probably won't work.

For any help we would need to know a bit more about the product.

Incidently you are asked for an Activation Code only if there is a Map to Activate.;)

I'm the friend that Happytrucker is talking about, allow me to explain. the first map i tried to install was the GB one, whilst downloading/transfering the file i noticed it had zip in the "address" as it was quite a big file i decided to download the smallest file which happened to be Canary Islands, this file was only 3mb and did not say zip in the address. This map loaded, asked for the relevant number, gave me one back and works perfectly. Unfortunatley i aint going to the canaries so it is not too much use. Should my PDA Acern35 have a winzip facility to unzip the GB file and other that i have subsequently tried to install.
Thanks

When you Install the GB Maps, you have the Option to also Install the Zip Folder. This is as in 'USA Zipcode', and contains the GB Postcode data.

Why would the Canary Isles File have a Zip Folder if they don't use Postcodes?

Your use of "address" puzzles me, especially in the context of Map Installing.Confused

When asked for an Activation Code, for the First Map, the one Activation will work for all the Maps in the Current Set. I've never known it 'give one back'.

As to Winzip, I believe it's only for the PC, but there are PDA versions available. I stand to be corrected on this.

Sorry Richard, i still have not made myself crystal. The "address" i talk about is when i am transfering from the disc any particular map, during the operation on the screen on my pc it shows where the file is going eg "sdd/mmc/zip/great_Britain postal" this was what i was misunderstanding with the "zip" file bit, I now understand that zip is post code. and indeed the Canaries do not have them.

On the subject of activation codes. My setup paperwork tells me that once the software and choice of map is on the PDA, i go to www.ttcode.com and enter the number supplied on an enclosed card, this code gets varified as legitimate then the website asks for another10 digit code that will appear when i first switch the PDA on. This did happen and i entered the code, immediately it returned another code to me which as instructed i entered into my PDA and the map became activated useable.

Getting back to the Great Britain map, i have managed to install it however i had to get the map from the disc and save it to my desktop as opposed to straight to my SD card then drag it from my desktop to the SD card. Now this is a time consuming job and cannot be right, How the hell i get round this one is my next problem.

Many thanks for your help Richard and any further help will be gratefully accepted.

Finally i got the impression that Happytrucker is of the opinion that this software might be "dodgy" it certainly appears legit to me even when you try to unpick the security seal it leaves on the pacaging the foil bit that comes off has the "hands" of tomtom inscribed underneath along with some foriegn print.
Thanks again

OK, now I know where you stand.Smile

You're main problem appears to be in Installing a Map.

What happened when you tried to Install the GB Map to the Card? Any Error Message, etc.?

As a matter of interest, I always have Installed my Maps to the Hard Drive, and then Copy/Paste to Card. I use a Card Reader, it's quicker. I also know then that I have a Backed Up Map on my PC.;)

Hello again.

Good to see he got back to you before I did.

It appears that there 's some sort of misread (maybe) of the disc when unpacking the maps to the SD card. No errors get called up, it just doesn't get transferred. The zip (post code) folder was getting copied across but no map data.

At first it did the same with the Benelux maps, but today they installed no problem. Although it takes longer due to doing it twice I have advised that it might be a good idea to copy to PC THEN drag to SD card.

As a matter of interest though, on inspection the software does appear to be legit, although it is TTN5 on a DVD.

Anyway, things are working for now. He needs to get some US maps on there soon, so anything could happen then!!!

Thanks for your help Richard.

Well, here we are again - and according to an email I received from stig yesterday, the actual quote was along the lines of "....2 and a half hours and back to square ******* ******* one".

Apparently, spurred on by the previous day's successes, he proceeded to install the map of Germany onto a different SD card. Two and a half hours later, he was informed of a successful installation only to be confronted by "No Maps Found" again. Needless to say that the term 'miffed' would be something of an understatement at this point.

I am currently unaware as to whether he has tried installing the Germany maps via the PC Hard Disk route yet. I am still waiting to hear. However, 2.5 hours does seem an impossibly long time to transfer the map data. Does anyone know if the N35 is only USB 1.1, hence the long transfer times? I'm wondering if due to large files there's a communication error during transfer corrupting the data maybe? It's a long shot I know but the GB & Germany maps won't install the 'proper' way but the Canaries and Benelux will. Both smaller maps than the other two.

He is looking for a card reader to possibly speed up the process and save what remains of his sanity. There should be some more info shortly. I have advised him to copy either a) the entire DVD to his hard drive and run the setup screens from there, or b) to install the map data to the PC and just drag/drop the maps as needed onto the SD card. Actually, thinking about it now, maybe the problem is a transfer issue from the CD/DVD drive reading the disc?

Have you two removable storage cards on your pda. There are a number of issues at the moment with TT6. For some reason if you install your software while both cards are inserted, then while the installation will complete, TT doesnt know where to look for the maps.
