Hi,

I will be changing my car in the near future and was wondering if there is any non destructive way of removing the self adhesive black disc that I attach my i3 to and fixing it to my new car.

I used the poweful adhesive ring to fit the disc to my almost vertical dashboard about a year ago and it has never budged.

Or is the best bet to leave it and purchase a new disc and if so does anyone know where I can buy one and for how much?

Regards,

Robert Swanson

Hi swanson, if you pm me your address I will send you one, I have two spare ones that I got with replacement holders that I dont need. I use a brodit mount now with the holder in place so its just a matter of attatching the nuvi when I get in the car.

Regards....Dil

Leave the old disk where it is, if not you will damage the dashboard - these things are not intended to be removed - Mike

I'm sorry Dil, I didn't mean to suggest you were. Embarassed

I just thought that, when your two have gone to good homes, it might be useful for others to know that Garmin will supply them free.

I know, only pulling your leg. Laughing

Might be an idea though to check out the Brodit mounts as they really are the "biz".

Dil..

Hi,

Thanks to you all for your speedy and helpful responses to my query.

I have decided to leave my existing disc where it is and take up Dilcymro's kind offer of one of his spare ones.

Regards,

Robert Swanson

I have looked at the Brodit mounts on the web, but couldn't see if any were suitable for the i3. Can you point me in the right direction?

Are they vent-mounted? Unfortunately I have a Ford Ka, and nothing's the same shape as on a 'normal' car. I tried fixing a mobile phone mount to the vent, and it doesn't fit. Sad

Any advice would be welcome, although I do find the i3 is in the ideal position (for me) using the disc on the top of the curved dash to the left of the steering wheel.

Hi Anita / all,

here`s a link to a site that sells brodit mounts and holders, find your holder first for the ford KA its the one with a diagram, no photo, apparently fits over the air vent. then you choose your mount, for the i3 it will be the same as the one I got for the nuvi, a base with a round ball attached this then screws onto the brodit holder and there you go. Just attach the i3 / nuvi when you get in, pull it off when done. I know they are not cheap but they are well made and save a lot of messing about.

Hi,

Thank you very much Dilcymro for your kind and speedy response.

I received the disc in the post this morning.

People like you are what makes this site so good and a pleasure to be a member of.

Thanks, Dil. That's a very useful link, and I've saved it for future reference but, as it suits me fine at the moment using the disc on top of the dash, I don't feel I can justify spending £40 on the Brodit clip and mount right now!

Hi all, Swanson2, you are welcome, glad to be of help.

Anita, just for future reference, I didnt actually buy the mounts etc from there, just checked what I needed and then googled around for the best deals , I think in the end both parts cost me around £29 from different dealers.

Regards...Dil

Thanks, Dil. I'll bear that in mind. The original link certainly makes it easy to find exactly what you want. Smile

It's not supposed to come off.. but you can try a fishing line cord to cut through the glue and clean off resude with some glue remover, but that may damage the plastics on your dash.....anyway seems like you are sorted now anyway.
