I've just got a 710, but the other day I was in a freind's car with a 510 and I'm sure his displayed speed limits on roads as well as speed cams. I thought the speed also turned red is he went over the current limit. I got the impression that he hadn't downloaded anything and this was all standard. Can't find these two features on my 710 but would like them. It's quite often that you actually don't know the current speeed limit.
Cheers Rob.

Welcome to the forum,

first of all select CHANGE PREFERENCES ensure SHOW FEWER MENU OPTIONS is selected (show all) then go to STATUS BAR PREFERENCES put a tick into the speed setting and press done reset to show fewer options if you wish Exclamation .

Whatever you do don't rely 100% on the speed to show you the road speed limit there will be errors and using the reading as a defence if you got caught going over the limit Police will get you no where.

I assume this isn't in the latest version of the 700 software? I haven't come across it, but its the kinda thing i could really do with!! Never really pay attention to what the limit is.... [619]

Not just the latest software... you also need the latest map versions (not yet available as upgrades), as the speed limits are coded into the map data.

Apparently it is also very much a "first go" - there are many missing speeds and inaccuracies.

It's not available on the 700 (and heaven forbid them from adding it) and you DON'T want it anyway - first, you can hardly see it (red figures on a black background), second, it's VERY inaccurate - on a trial of a GO910 I found M5 motorway Jct 22 to 30 set at 60mph and on more than 50% of the map no speed at all. With such great inaccuracy it's more disadvantage than help.

PS
Dear Andy_P2002. You (or somebody of your helpful nature) would persuade me to buy a GO910 if only you could hack the software and disable this feature. Thumbs Up

However, the actual measurement of the speed your vehicle is travelling is VERY accurate and is almost certainly more accurate than the vehicles speedometer.

So, although I agree the red on dark blue colours aren't the best that could have been selected and the fact that the TomTom speed limits aren't complete in my opinion the speed indicator is still a very practical and useful feature.

I quite agree and have used the speed indicator on my GO700 since day 1, as a more accurate speedo than my van.
But Sixonenine was after the speed limit indicator. When I tried the GO910, I found the additional Speed Limit a total pain, akin to those infuriating roadside displays which light up saying SLOW 30MPH when you're doing 25mph, because I never intentionally exceed any speed limits, so I hated being told I was when I wasn't.
