Having received an RDS-TMC receiver this morning, I can confirm that version 5.2.6 works with TMC. It has pulled in over 80 messages this morning on 95.8 mhz (Capital Radio). It uses Trafficmaster data and provides info on the type of problem and the likely delay. I have not tried it for re-routeing yet but will update the forum when I have a chance. It is running on a Mio 168 and the receiver is a GNS FMS TrafficBox RDS TMC Adapter.

So there is no need to wait for version 6 if you want TMC data.

The version that I am using is dated April 2006 and was purchased about three weeks ago. There is an update on the Navigon website - may be worth a try.

Hello Paul,

I haev just checked on my PDA and I already have Version 5.2.6 Dated April 18 2006.

I do get the TMC icon on the bottem of the screen as if its working but I never seem to get any traffic messege, when I check the TMC it shows it locked onto a RDS station.

I do have fitted in my car a TrafficMaster which picks up the jams ECT, but its a pain when you are travling along the motorway changing the route, thats I was wondering if anyone else received the TMC reports.

I know there are several items in the forums with reference to the TMC on NavigonMobile 5 not being used in the UK.

Reagrds
Tony

Hi having read the other messages above I was considering buying the
Mitac Mio GNS FMS TrafficBox RDS TMC Adapter I currently have a Mio 168 with Navigon 5.2.6 running. Is there anything else required to get TMC running how easy is it to install and connect to in car radio.

Many Thanks Len

Lenhart

The GNS FMS TrafficBox RDS TMC Adapter costs about £50 incl postage. It works fine indoors on a wire aerial. The problem in the car is getting good reception. The aerial supplied is just a piece of what we used to call "flex" - it is not particularly attractive. Moreover it is not good at pulling in TMC channels. The TMC signal is a bit like teletext on TV - it will not lock on to and decode a weak signal. I have tapped into the car aerial and the signal is now quite strong in London (via Capital) and it was also very good on Essex FM. The GNS website shows a Y adapter which fits in the car aerial lead (costs about €35).

Last week it re-routed me from a six mile tailback on the A12. The maximum number of national events has been about 160 so it certainly works.

There is a down side, however. There was no signal in Ipswich although there should have been and the service appeared to be down yesterday (no response from Trafficmaster or Capital as yet!) so its a bit like pioneering at the moment. If you like messing about with gadgets it will certainly keep you amused. If you expect it to work straight from the box, it may not be for you.

Regards

Hi Paul

Many thanks for your reply as I live on Merseyside it would be interesting to see if it works ok. Do you have GNS website is it in German or English.

Many thanks once again Cheers Len

Hi Len

The link is http://www.gns-gmbh.com

The site is available in English & German.

I bought my receiver from Handnav. Delivery was prompt (48hrs) & free.

Also look at the Trafficmaster website. They use 88 IBA stations nationwide to transmit the TMC signal. However, they will not respond to emails. They refer you to Navigon. I must have exchanged more than a dozen emails with Navigon before I got a definitive answer that 5.2.6 would work - must be something to do with the language problem. Also GNS have not responded as yet to an email.

So as I said earlier, TMC does work with 5.2.6 but you are very much on your own. There seems to be little support around which is a shame as the GNS receiver is a cost effective way to get TMC on a PDA. (Much cheaper than the TomTom TMC option for the x10 series)

At the moment (4.55pm) Navigon is showing over 140 items including quite a few in your area (M60 etc).

Hope this helps

Paul

Has anyone else got the TMC on the MN5 any version, to work with other makes of receiver?
