Replacement 510/710/910 mounts - got yours yet?

Well, I have to say...... it works! The new mount has been in use for a couple of weeks now and (so far) no problems... apart from muscle strain from locking it!

A couple of issues here ...

1 - I've seen a comment about using it WITHOUT turning it to "position 2"

Position "1" seems to be the 'set' position i.e. you can still move the GO about to get it in the exact position you want, and position "2" is the 'locked' position - so if you don't lock it, it ain't likely to perform any better than the original mount is it?

2 - Does it cure ALL the original problems? The intermittent electrical connection SEEMS to have gone away - but then again, it's not drooping down onto the dash which largely caused the problem (for me at least) AND I'm now on v6.51 which does (as someone else has said) hide the problem somewhat.

3 - The final death of my "Mk 1" mount came when it exploded into lots of broken bits - if this new one is made of the same grade of recycled plastic inside the locking mechanism, then it is also going to fail in the same way and perhaps more spectacularly since the stress being applied to the parts is much greater in the Mk 2 than in the Mk 1. Look out for flying Tom Toms in your area ..........
