Qubit PDA Mute

As I now finally have got a PDA based solution, I wanted to find a way to integrate it into my in car entertainment system. I really am not a fan of the FM Modulators and cassette adapters as I want to listen to something else inbetween instructions. I am not a fan of poweredmultimedia mounts as they are just so ungly and bulky and the sound it tiny and thin as there is such a tiny speaker. I was just ready to get my soldering iron and start a little project until I did another search. This search came up with the following.

This is basically a box that connects to the speaker outputs from an incar audio headunit, you also connect the 3.5mm jack output from the PDA to it. Out of the box are the connections to the speakers in your car, or to crossovers or amplifiers what ever you want to do with it.
So the function is that your music is playing as normal, then the PDA makes an announcement, or any sound, this will then cut off the input from the audio head unit (probably a relay in there or something), keeps the rear speakers muted and outputs using a build-in amplifier the PDA sound on the front speaker wiring.
Brilliant!!!! Safes me a lot of hassle of making it myself.

I have contacted the distributor to find out where I can buy it in the UK and can't wait to integrate it. Now it will be the flexibility of a PDA with the quality and integration of an built-in system...I hope...

Has anyone else got any experience with this? If not than I hope it is a good find and contribution to this board....

Indeed that does look like an ideal solution for our purposes. I have written to the manufacturers asking for a review sample and will keep you posted

Does it work the same way like with Hurricans, i.e. that I can name it in the UK within the PocketGPS community ;-)
