Hi all.
Just a quick question about the poi`s i`ve stored on my nuvi. I know it does`ent really make a difference but why do they not go in alphabetical order when stored. they go all over the place in a mess.
Just wondered if i was installing them wrong or the way the nuvi does these things. I have them in alphabetical order in my poi folder on my computer.

Which menu item are you seeing them in a random order? The only non-aphabetic screens I can think of are those that show you the POIs based on the distance away from you / the location selected, which obviously would jumble them up and it's noe based on distance and not name.

I spoke to Garmin to ask if it's possible to arrange them in alphabetical rather than distance from current position order but was told this was not a function of the Nuvi.

Thank you for your help Nick.
The menu I`am seeing them not in alphabetical order is

Where to -
My locations -
Custom POI`s -

I understand the POI`s shown as a distance would not be in order but when searching for things begining with A i.e apollo cinemas. I have to scroll right through and it is 3rd page from bottom out of 18 pages.

Thanks again and now i know it`s just how it is.

That's strange 'cos on my Nuvi my custom POIs are listed in alphabetical order.

Perhaps I should clarify that. All of my custom POIs are grouped together by category i.e Motorway services, Cinemas, Petrol stations. These categories are displayed in alphabetical order. If I then look in my Petrol station category, for example, the individual garages will be listed by distance - which makes sense if I am about to run out of petrol.

Would it help you if you could group everything like that.

Yes sorarse mine too are grouped together but as opposed to having cinemas all in one file i have a group for each of the different cinemas. EG one group for apollo cinemas and another for vue cinemas etc.
And petrol stations are under the type of petrol sold as in total and bp or esso etc.
I don`t know if it would help but a bit simple with computers and don`t know how to do it.
I could put them in different folders but that would overwrite each time I uploaded them.
Also if I did it that way would I lose the seperate icons for each item or would they come under one. All petrol stations under a petrol sign as opposed to each brand.
Not that it would make any difference.

Yes, if you merged the CSV files that make up the data you would then only get a single icon and single entry, but without some data manipulation you may lose some information.

However, I like the ability to search for a very particular brand...

Thanks a lot people.
I think I will just leave it as it is cos it`s not that bad and i can live with it. I just wondered if it was possible or if I had installed them wrong.

I have the same problem with my Garmin 510D;

Where to - Extras - Custom POI`s then I get somthing like;

Speed-60
Airports
Redlight-90,
B&Q, etc.

and not what I want;

Airports
B&Q
Redlight-90, etc.
Speed-60

I had deleted the first line in each CSV file that had the following;
Longitude Latitude Name Details

and that worked!

But today, I loaded Europe Speed camera data and its all muddeled again!

Any ideas wellcome...
