TomTom Go 700 auto power up when in car cradle.

TomTom used to switch on and off automatically with the ignition when in the car mount. I let the TomTom battery go flat, and then recharged it in the house. Now it has to be switched on and off manually when in the car mount, and it appears not to be getting any power from the cigarette lighter, althoug the lighter works.
Is this just a coincidence, and there is a loose connection somewhere, or is there some default setting that is in operation after loosing all battery power?

If you plug the power cable into the socket on the back of the Go rather than the mount, does it get power that way?

i have noticed with mine it dosnt come on automatically with the 6x software like it did with 5x.. not sure whether this is a good thing or bad thing but both my green lights come on the one on the charger plug and the one on the tomtom unit..

to me no green lights means no power to the plug..

Is there a connection on the mount for the 700?

I've always connected mine directly to the GO?!

Regarding the auto power off... I think this works on either connection.
As I didn't realise there was one on the mount I've been plugging straight in, and when I turn the engine off, Tom goes to sleep!

UNLESS

Where I've asked the wife to plug it in, shes found the right hole and thats why it's turned off..

Either way, I'll search out the socket!

she probably has.. my 300 now dosnt turn off but thinking back when it did i was useing the mount..

i had just put it down to the newer software..

I have borrowed a digital multimeter. There is no power to the jack plug that goes into the car mount, and no light on the cigarette lighter adaptor. (I had this plugged in upside down so didn't know there was a light until now!) I have tested the 2A fuse in the adaptor and it is OK. The adaptor felt pretty hot, but it was in the sun.
I shall try again in the garage tomorrow, but it looks to me like I will need a new adaptor - guess what? It is just more than a year since I bought it!

Check your EULA (mine is called "lic_eng.txt") in the "licences" folder on your TomTom. You might well find you have a TWO year guarantee.

I have found the warranty (EULA) in the box. (sometimes it pays to be a hoarder! The warranty is for two years as you said.
I shall call Maplins. They were very good when the original windscreen mount broke within a day or two of first using it. Sent a replacement as soon as they got stock, about two weeks - I think a lot were breaking as the design was not very good.

Well, I found the socket on the cradle... had never noticed it before, and theres an external mic one too....

But I still say that mines been powering off when plugged directly into the GO as I showed my Mrs, and she'd not seen the one on the cradle either!!!
