I'd be so SO grateful if someone could help because I've spent literally hours (more than I'd care to admit!) trying to get this working, and doing research online, and waiting on hold for T-mobile customer services.. and it still isn't working!

I've installed Tomtom Navigator 5 on my T-mobile MDA compact, and the software seems to work ok but it doesn't find the bluetooth GPS receiver I have (Holox). I've tried adding a new connection for it through the settings - connections menu, but there doesn't appear to be any COM ports available on the PDA (I'm not even sure if it is meant to connect though a COM port.. don't even know what one is), although the PDA does find the gps receiver when I search for new bluetooth devices..

What do I do? Anyone have any ideas?? The brick wall's getting thin and my head's getting sore.. Please help!

Thanks!

Jari

Welcome jarimda

All right, try this on your phone:

Start Menu -- Settings -- tap the Connections tab -- tap the Bluetooth icon

Turn on Bluetooth (Ticked)
Make discoverable (Ticked)

Now switch your Holux on and put it somewhere that it can get a reasonable view of at least half the sky. You should get a blinking blue light (Bluetooth) and an orange light which blinks when it gets a GPS fix (the first fix might take a minute and it might take 10 - worry about that later).

Tap the Devices tab, then select "New Partnership" on the screen.

It should search and hopefully find your Holux. If it doesn't then switch the Holux off then on and tap "Refresh" to try again.

If you see the Holux appear then select it from the list and tap next. You will be asked for a 4 digit passkey to allow you to bond with the device. If you have a new Holux then it's 0000 (4 zeros), older Holux units (GR-230) use 6268.

Tick the "Serial Port" tick box when it lists "Services to use from this device".

If it bonds then it should appear in the list of known bluetooth devices.

Tap the COM Ports tab and then tap "New Outgoing Port", Select the GPS from the list of devices, tap Next, select COM7 (or what ever) from the popup list, untick "Secure Connection" option, then tap Finish.

You should be able to select COM7 in TomTom and away you go.

If the orange light on the GPS doesn't blink then you may need a better sky view or wait 10 minutes and see what happens. It helps if you don't move the GPS receiver or block it's sky view while it's trying to get a first fix.

Simple, huh? Wink Good luck! Thumbs Up
