In TT5, if displaying POI's on the map, the display would lag behind your actual position.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed in TT6.

Thanks

It was not a problem with TT5, it was that the processor and/or card was too slow. Doubt that that has changed in TT6.

I didn't think that my system was that archaic Sad

It would be interesting to know if users have NOT experienced the map screen lag when displaying POI's, and importantly what set-up they are using - processor, card speed etc.

Thanks

Baz

Hi Bazzer,

It isn't! Thumbs Up

I have two identical setups that match yours, except that I use CF and not SD cards. I use:

HP h2210 iPAQ
Kingston 1024MB Compact Flash card
GlobalSat BT-338 GPS Receiver

Both of my setups run TomTom Navigator and I've not had a problem with screen lag when displaying POIs.

Perhaps you might want to think about a different SD card or try using a CF card.

This is the CF card that I use and the website is where I buy my storage cards from.

Hi Privateer,

Thanks for the information, but I must admit, it's all left me a bit confused Confused

Now, I'm no expert on flash memory, and I don't know if CF is supposed to be better than SD, but looking at the Performance Verification tests on the Valuemedia website, my bog standard Kingston SD card appears to have faster read and write speeds (Mb/sec) than the CF card that you use.

So, I can't understand why I would experience the map-lag with my system but you don't with yours if my read/write speeds are supposed to be faster.

Before I splash the cash on an ultra fast CF card, I would welcome any help on what I should be looking for in terms of speed etc (Mb/sec, 100x, 133x etc)

Thanks

Baz

Yes it would be interesting to know. I thought map lag would be a function of processing speed (ie the pda) as much as card speed?

Hi Bazzer & argosafe,

I don't think that it's the storage card so much as the h2210 itself. The 2210 used to be a very popular PocketPC model for SatNav use. However IIRC some (although not all) 2210s had a problem with SD cards when the SD card was used in conjunction with a Bluetooth GPS Receiver. I think that the problem could well have been map lag.

The problem is relatively easy to solve by either changing the SD card for a CF card, or by changing the Bluetooth GPS Receiver for a Wired or CF GPS Receiver.

If you’re not using the CF slot then I’d suggest that you try a CF card.

Regards,

Righty-O. Just ordered a high speed CF card from Valuemedia.

Hopefully, once I have copied my SD card to it, I'll be able to display POI's without having the map-lag. Fingers are firmly crossed.

Thanks again for your help Thumbs Up
