Got a long journey today - so any help would be appreciated.

I turned my Nuvi off mid navigation last night.

Now, it has lost everything except major roads, doesn't show roundabouts or junctions, places my vehicle about half a mile away from the major road it is travelling on, and when you are away from major roads it gives an error message saying "No roads near starting point" Sad

I really need this today so any help would be REALLY appreciated. I have tried reset with no luck, the only other possibility I guess would be a reinstall of the map from DVD?

Also, if anyone knows what causes this so I can avoid it happening again - your knowledge and advice would again be appreciated.

Sounds as if you have a unit using a basemap rather than the detailed maps.

Both my units have the ability to select what maps to use.
Try looking for the options to use detailed maps???

That is not the option I was talking about!

'Show/Hide BaseMap'
Show/Hide Detail Map'

On the Nuvi, you will find this if you go into settings, choose map then map info on the buttons on the bottom of the screen. Make sure the city navigator map has a tick beside it.

Other thing to try is turn off the Nuvi, press and hold the power button for about a minute until the screen changes from prebooting to booting

Thanks again for the replies!

The tick is enabled. Tried the one minute power button trick (whilst the unit is powered off, is that correct?) but nothing happened.

That's odd - have you downloaded the latest firmware from the garmin site - it might help

yeah, I'm at work at the moment. Gonna try the update when I get home, if that doesn't work gonna run into Halfords on the way back in the hope that they will replace it before I leave.

If not, time to contact Garmin I suppose.

Thanks for your help though!

HI Gibb,

As a matter of interest did you update using the webupdater, or did you manually update it? Apparently there are issues with the webupdater and you are advised to manually update the nuvi.

Also what about the re-set button underneath the arial on the unit, has that been tried?

Regards....Dil

I tried the reset button, and got the problem before updating.

halfords will swap it for a new one for me, which is good of them. But I will write to Garmin and find out how and why this problem was caused. If I hear anything back I will post here.

Somehow the internal memory of the Nuvi got corrupted, which either deleted or corrupted the main map file. It's happened to a very few people, and I don't know exactly what's caused it.

The only solution (short of returning the unit to Garmin) is to format the internal memory and restore a backup that was taken before the corruption (yes, even SatNav units need to be backed up!). This is obviously not for the faint hearted, but those who have tried have found success.

That's interesting.

When i was driving yesterday, I took it with me to see if it would start working again. It even still showed traffic lights in their correct location, even though it wasn's showing the roads.

If the map file has become corrupted, could I not just reload the map of Britain from the map source DVD?

I actually tried to do that - but the instructions weren't very clear and Icouldn't work out how to select the map of britain.

Are your maps on SD card or in Internal?
When you Zoom in and out to the Red Light, does it appear all the time or just at certain Zoom levels?
If your maps are on SD card, can you view the content on a card reader.
Any new maps loaded to a SD card over-writes the existing!
Try loading one maptile from MapSource to a different card and inserting it in the unit.

Try all zoom levels.
