Hi all,

I am ready to be flamed for being a happy Garmin user... but one of my friends has ignored all of my advice and not bought a Garmin unit. Instead he has brought a Mio C210. He has asked me to have a look at it and as much as it pains me to say it, it aint bad!!! (that took a lot of effort so you guys had better help)Smile

Anyway... enough sucking up!

He has a problem (other than not listening to me) which is that he is trying to load the Spanish maps onto an SD card. I have done this for him as he does not have an SD Card reader using the tools on the providded DVD. I have manually created a MioMap\Maps folder in the route of the SD card. The app has then created the following files:

In Miomap/Maps
Andorra.fbl
Basemap.fbl
Portugalia.fbl
Spain.fbl
WestEUMajor.fbl

and in the Root folder
license.db
and an empty directory gpslog

So far so good.

We have put the SD Card into the C210 and it rboots itself, but not a lot else happens. The new Map does not show under About, Maps. And when looking at Spain no more detail is available.

I'm guessing that we are missing a step but the instructions are worse than hopeless and I can't seem to see any related threads in this forum (which probably mans that it is a really obvious step that we are missing).

Could someone please help us by letting us know what else we need to do?

Many thanks for your time and help.

Trev

the license.db file is bound to the SD card ID. You can't simply copy it over from somewhere else.

The unit didn't come with an SD card, the british maps were installed already. It came with a DVD with the European maps which say they can be installed on an SD card which is what i am trying to do.

Please help

We didn't copy the Licence.db file the DVD software created it itself.

You seem to have done everything correctly according to these instructions:

That's interesting. On how many SD cards can you install that? Logically they should limit that to just one card, otherwise the whole iGO licensing schema could be easily circumvented by someone with the Miomaps DVD and a few thousand SD cards.

As far as I am aware MioMap will run on these devices without the SD at all, in fact I don't think that they come with an SD card. So MioMap must be licensed to the device itself and the license on the SD card must be just for the additional maps. Confused

yes, so far so good. The device behaves like a SD card in regards to the licence.db mechanism.

But there is an option to copy maps from DVD to SD (rather than to the device) - right?

In this case, how many SDs can be created this way?

If everything was done right, any ideas why it isn't working?

My theory is that the generated licence.db is invalid.

In that case the maps still show as unlicensed and you get a message about some of the maps requiring a license.

As many as you like presumably. Smile

You could try copying the generated license.db file to the MioMap folder on the SD card, if that doesn't work copy it to the Maps folder as well. Other than that format the SD card and do it all again, maybe there was a copying error.
