Hi kaplah,

Welcome to the forum. Welcome

Your Garmin eTrex Summit is probably set-up the same as my old Garmin GPS12XL. To easily use a Garmin GPS receiver in the UK you need to change the following settings:

Map Datum: ORD SRVY GB (is probably currently WGS 84)
Position Format: British Grid

The Position Format will give you Ordnance Survey Grid References (e.g. TQ062574). The Map Datum will ensure that you are on the right place according to the OS Map. If you use WGS 84 you may be up to 100 metres off target.

You should find both “Map Datum” and “Position Format” in the “units” page.

HTH,

If you have a User Manual, look on page 48. If you don't have one, you can download it from Garmin's website by following the following link. http://www.garmin.com/manuals/eTrexSummit_OwnersManual.pdf
