|
|
I am looking for a new satnav after having my Tomtom 700 stolen and have narrowed it down to a tomtom 910 or Nuvi 360.
I had a go of the 360 in Halfords last night but couldn't work out how to work out a route in advance, only from where the unit currently is. Can you plan a route from say Birmingham to Glasgow if you are sat at home in London?
The other thing I noticed is that not every street name on the map is shown when doing a route demo. Is this normal and can it be changed?
Thanks for your answers. Up to last nights demo I was dead set on changing to Garmin but now I am not sure again. The small form factor is a massive bonus for me but I like the tomtom software, even if the company is terrible. |

Can someone else confirm whether these increase the number of road names displayed? |

Hi,
Yes it can be done and it's not too difficult although not quite as easy as TomTom's.
From Main Screen Go To "Where To" - Tab Down Arrow to "Browse Map"
then Drag Map to where you wish to Start journey from. I use a combination of Minimise map size to start with and then Zoom in to get a precise location.
So in your request use this method to go to Glasgow (dragging map) and then zoom in to specific street location in Glasgow City.
Now - Press "Set Location " button. This will move you to this location.
Now - Press "Back" button, and go to "Where To " again, insert the Address/Postcode or whichever destination you want in the normal fashion and now it will calculate route as per your request, rather than from where you are now.
So going from Glasgow to e.g. Birmingham, although, e.g. you are in London.
I agree it's not quite as easy as TomTom but then I think the Garmin is overall the better machine.

In navigation mode, the Nuvi doesn't show all road names in order to keep the screen uncluttered and to help speed up the refresh rate. I guess the other way of thinking about it is if the roads are not on your route, why would you need to know the names?
In ordinary driving mode (ie without a route being programmed in) the Nuvi will show the name of each road as you approach it at the top of the display. |
