I've been running TTN5 on a IPAQ3970 with GPslim BT receiver for ages. I've just been offered an upgrade on my mobile phone and one of the phones on offer is the Nokia SPV M600. On the face of it I can pension off my IPAQ and run TT on the phone. What do you think? Good idea or not?

| Are you sure this is a "Nokia" device? it looks more like something from the HTC company, as it is running WM2005 you will need TomTom Navigator version 5,21 but otherwise it will be OK, Which service provider are you getting the unit from? - Mike |

Hi Mike,
I've just checked and maybe it's not Nokia! It's being offerd by Orange. Do you think it is a good choice or would I be better with a simpler phone and sticking to the PDA for navigation and all the other stuff?

I thought this wasn't a Nokia unit, the HTC units (badged in various guises) are a decent bit of kit, although "Jack of all trades Master of non" does spring to mind.
These devices are large and heavy when compared to a basic mobile phone, if this is something you are happy to live with then go for it, I use a similar type phone (or two XDAIIs and XDA-Exec) and I am quite happy with the situation, but it is really down to what will work for you.
The one really big plus point is that you are very unlikely to leave the unit in the car (people tend to take their phones with them for obvious reasons).
From your earlier post I assume you are using a GPSlim236 which is fine for this device, you can only use a Bluetooth type device with this phone/ PDA combo, a wired GPS unit is a no-no it won't work.
If you like the size, weight and feel of the unit give it a try, I like the fact I am only carrying a single unit rather than PDA + Phone.
Go to the shop and try the unit out BEFORE you decide either way - Mike |

Mike's correct, this is NOT a Nokia phone - it is a phone by Taiwanese company HTC and code named "Prophet". Mobile phone providers rebadge them as Orange, T-Mobile or whatever.
They are a fair bit smaller than a "standard" PDA but they have Window Mobile 2005 and the standard QVGA 320x240 screen (albeit smaller than most PDAs).
They can be a bit clunky to use at times but I think they are a nice compromise between a phone and a PDA if you don't want to carry both.

Indeed, based on teh HTC and rebranded by Orange (SPV M600), O2 (as the Neo in Germany soon to be launched in the UK) and i-mate too sell it as the JAMin. I'm currently using it with TTN5.21 without any problems.
Tha only "problem" is finding a decent holder for the car. |
